Hey all!

Has anyone seen this yet:

http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=197&cat=74&page=1

Looks pretty slick. That's just what I was looking for for my Raptors. I think I'll pick one of these up. Anyone tried one yet?

Well normally I despise hdd coolers, but considering this one has low pressure drop and uses only delrin and copper.. it doesnt look too bad... should do pretty nicely... but it sure is big...

Yup, that's why I'm snagging one. I'm going to change out the fittings to brass barbs... then throw the thing in my system. I like how big it is... should go nice in my V2000b. Hopefully it'll help keep my Raptors happy. :)

BTW, does the chrome-plating mess up anything in the WC loop? I've heard that I should keep chrome and aluminum out of my loop... and these fittings would be the only thing with chrome on them. Thoughts?

I'm not crazy about hdd-coolers neither. In my opinion a fan would do a great job keeping these raptors down in temp. But okay if you really want a silent system I would go for it considering the low pressure drop dangerden claims ;)

this is great if you used this to cool the drives and wrap them up with sound deaden material. That way they will be silent and cool.

They usually have minimal flow restriction, it's just a copper block with a massive straight through hole, after all. The only reason for watercooling HDs is noise imho, and sets like these (http://www.thecoolingshop.com/product_info.php/cPath/33_65/products_id/1736) actually work rather well. Price is steep and diy constructions can be more effective though, still a good solution for people with cash and desire for silence.

$99 you must be kidding, not even a enclosure included.

man that price is ridiculous. i'll stick to fans.

while it looks like it could plausibly be decent, 100 bucks is 99 bucks too much for my tastes.

For those interested in water cooling just one drive.......

I'd not suggest this even with some of the newer moderate resistence HDD blocks out now unless you're going dual loop. If you really want to water cool the NB, HDD & PSU on a second loop.......hey, have fun! :D

I didnt look at the price... 100 dollars... F' That!! a silent 120mm fan costs no more than 15 dollars.... 15.. 100.... gee hard decision.

HD coolers are a waste of time, money, space, WC performance, etc.

One fan blowing over all your HDs is all that is needed. :stick:

I don't think they are a waste at all, it is the harddrive that makes the noise, try building me a silenced enclosure with a fan :P There are some nice aluminum enclosures fully passive though, pricewise they are pretty steep too.

There are silent fans, HDs don't need much airflow. Combine a silent fan with a rubber mount setup and the HD will be very quiet.

My new Hitache SATA drives make way more clicking noise than any WD I've had before though....but dang they are fast :)

Granted many new drives are pretty silent, but an enclosure is way more effective than any decoupled mounting on its own. For some Harddrives that is the only way to get em somehow silent.

What a load of crap. I can't believe dden can design something that without a doubt is incredibly simple internally and think they can charge $100 for it. Ridiculous, this is just like the NV40 series blocks. Poorly made, high price.

very nice but for 100 dollar I rather invest it towards something else.

I prefer boxes of 6 80mm fans for 10 bucks from frozenCPU ;)
they're nice and silent, even at full voltage!

just checked out the link...

1. so it takes up a pair of 5 1/4 bays... not good, ive already got 5 of my bays used up, and when i get my Maximizer.... :D

2. it cools the side of the HD... not sure about yours but my raptors get hot on the top

3. 100 bucks... not on your life

4. i cant think of one right now... so help me out guys :D

I think it will cool raptors just fine.

I think its quite a clever design, by far the best HDD cooler avalable.
I dont think ill be buying one as I dont need it, but if I was going for a fanless PC then it would be worth $100 to me.

1. And I believe it lets you install 2 HDs that way, which makes it a bit more useful and cost effective.

2. As the sides are cooled, the entire drive's temp should drop. Especially if the sides are kept close to ambient temps since it's watercooled.

3. See #1, sure it's still expensive but you only need 1 for 2 HDs.

4. Not that I'd buy one, but at least it's a decent product.

Wow.... well, due to the overwhelming consensus that this thing is overpriced and unnecessary... I got mine in the mail yesterday. :) This thing is very sold and looks like it'll cool very well.

I'm trying to get rid of as many fans as I can since my PC is on my desk about 3' away from me and I can hear EVERYTHING. I'm going to get this thing installed here soon, but I'll try and snap some pics of it unassembled.

Hahaha, yeah. I was so excited when I saw it that I immediately ordered it. After I did, I thought I would see what all you WC masters thought of it. I must admit... if I would have waited to see what you all thought.. I would have maybe passed on it. But now that I have it in-hand, I'll definately throw it in my system. :D I was designing a HD cooler... and this looked a LOT like it.

Now I can get back to designing my graphics card WB. :)

Those raptors are designed on the SCSI principle of taking the heat while staying spinning....(in fact they are mostly SCSI technology). Cooling them off only makes the owners feel better, not the drives.

3Tripnip

True... but I wanted mine to be quiet. I have a box that they'll go in... but then they get warmer... warmer than usual. I was looking at the SilenX Luxurae (SP?) and, while keeping the drives quiet, made them run hot.

This DD waterblock has lots of mounting holes, so it'd be easy to retrofit it with some aluminum sheets and sound-dampening foam. That's the plan anyway. ;)

I hope it all works out for you!
When I used those drives I bought a Lian Li noise insulated case... that worked fine. Shut them right up.

It will look very good regardless!

Do us a favor and post case temps with and without that on there. I can't imagine it would make a big difference, but it's always fun to know.

They look an awesome piece of kit, pretty overkill unless you're running Raptors/ SCSI drives.

There are some pictures here (http://www.coolercases.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=576), including some ones of the internals on the second page.
