View Full Version : Photoshop not reproducing correct colors

If you look at the pictures, the winamp on top is the actual winamp that is open. The other instance under the other is from a screenshot I took. The colors should be the exact same, but for some reason, if I take a screenshot and then open it up in photoshop, the correct colors are not produced. As you can see, they are way off on the blue spectrum; not as much on the red/orange spectrum.

hmmm, I tried it and it works fine for me. Try pasting it into paint? See if it is still blue.

I've tried some different ones and have gotten it closer, but not close enough. Is there anything more specific you would suggest?

OH!, after reading your post I see what you are experiencing. I still think its color profiles, but I can't be certain. It could also be your monitor color profile in windows, but that would be global, not just PS. OK.
1. Do a screen grab,
2. import to photoshop where the colors are messed,
3. then save as a .jpg or something without messing with anything,
4.then view the jpg outside of PS comparing to the original colors.
If the colors between the original winamp and the new jpg match, its almost for sure color profiles. If not, then I don't know. Could have something to do with the way winamp does skin overlays.
What color profile are you using?

if your saving the SS first and then compressing it and then re opening it and takign a second SS, whatever compression you are using could be doing that...

That's true too. Try saving as bitmap or PNG.

No I'm just taking the screen shot, pasting into photoshop, and then comparing with the original winamp that is still open.
If you look at the attached picture, what I did was take the screen shot, paste into photoshop, then put the winamp program next to it and take another screen shot, pasting it into photoshop. I did this several times to show how it progressively changes. Its hard to see at first, but if you look carefully, you can see it change.
The RGB of the main color in winamp is:
First time: 255 0 118
Second time: 247 0 110
Third time: 218 0 104
Fourth time: 185 32 99
The relationship in color changes seems to be exponential, with the changes in color increasing more rapidly each time.
Even without saving it, just viewing it in photoshop after pasting shows the color difference. If I paste it into MSPAINT, and then compare, the colors are dead on. It has to do something with the colors in PS.
Btw, thats not the actual color I'm using, its just really easy to see the difference with that color :).

By the way, the red backround is actually my desktop which is maroon, not bright red.
Sorry, I couldn't resize because that would involve photoshop which would distort the colors :-D

colour profiles wont make any difference on your own PC
that looks like you made a new CMYK file and pasted a RGB screenshot

Nope...its RGB

Special K has a good theory. Now that I hear that, it's EXACTLY what it looks like. believe me, I had a BIG issue with that one time. It may show RGB the whole time, but at some point, it is converting to CMYK, and possibly back.
The more I think about it, the more I certain that's the answer.

Update...I totally uninstalled Photoshop 7.0 and got CS2 from...somewhere...and im still having the same problems. How do I stop it from converting to CMYK????????
Btw colorshift happends only in Photoshop, but not in ImageReady.

Can you please take SS of what it shows when you go to Edit -> Color Settings?
I think the problem's there.

Thanks...I messed around and changed under settings "North American General Purpose 2" to "Monitor Color" and it fixed everything. Thanks again...

Was I right about the profiles? I'm not trying to say "I told you so," I would just really like to know in case it becomes a problem for me sometime.

No...if you go under color settings (Shift+control+K), theres a big title option called settings. I changed "North American General Purpose 2" to "Monitor Color" and it fixed everything. More specifically what this did was turn off "color management policies"
