I'm just wondering of getting another CPU waterblock... the TDX is a pain to insulate due to it's off shape.. is there a copper top to the storm 5 or something? It looks like it's plastic.

storm 5? you mean swiftech storm? or Storm G5? either way, they're both delrin-topped.

i would say stay away from the impengent waterblocks for water chillers, as the little jets clog up. the extra antifreeze and other additives will create junk in there that after time clog up the storm really easily. get something like a mcw 6002

depends on the coolant you use. if it's alcohol, you're probably ok

the top is delrin.. it handles temps pretty well.. but it depends on how cold you get.. after a certain point the delrin will get brittle and crack...
look up the properties of it to see.
insulating the storm wont be the easiest thing in the world, but it shouldnt be too hard compared to alot of blocks on the market.

A guy over at OCAU ran -40C alcohol through an un-modified Storm/G4 original just fine.

Well i'm running a ratio of 2/3 antifreeze and windshield washing liquid.. at bout -40c

I wouldn't bother with the anti-freeze. Just go with straight alcohol. EThanol freezes at around -100C or so, anti-freeze freezes at around -38C. The reason you're at -40C and still liquid is probably due to the ethanol in the wiper-fluid mixture.

It works very well actually... also doesn't smell as bad and doesn't evap as quick.

Yeah, 6002 is a good bet and quite easy to insulate. A few neoprene squares and some silicone and its done and then you just gotta build up a mounting plate.

Given that windsheild wiper fluid is poisonous to breath in, if you're losing any at all, I think you have a serious safety problem. Either fix it so that you'd not losing any (which should be true of any watercooling system, chilled or not), or DON'T USE IT.

You serious??? Wow.. i never knew it was poisonous. Ummm i don't think i'm losing any as more spilling alot when i'm messing around w/ the system.. Umm it's at a ratio aswell so i don't think i'll die or anything.. do you??
What should i be using instead of di-icer?

Most of that windshield wiper stuff is methanol based. Thats wood alcohol. Generally people go blind from drinking it, but if you inhale enough of it, you can go blind that way too. Its not super deadly, but it does degenerate nerve cells, and there are pretty strict safety standards in place for dealing with it:
http://avogadro.chem.iastate.edu/MSDS/methanol.htm
Toxic : danger of very serious
irreversible effects through inhalation, in contact
with skin and if swallowed.
Might want to check if that methanol or ethanol (IIRC both are used, but the stuff I've seen had methanol). If it is methanol, it wouldn't hurt to set the thing in a well ventilated area until you're sure its safe, or even to switch to ethanol if you have a serious leaking problem. Remember the vapor is quite volitile, so it will escape unless its airtight.

Man, thanks so much for the info!
So i should use Antifreeze + Denatured Alcohol? At what ratio?

Assuming you get your system to not leak, I'd just use as pure ethanol as you can get. Theres no need for antifreeze, no single stage chiller could freeze it, and its a better coolant.
If you can't get it airtight, I'd probably use water and antifreeze. Water seems to evaporate a lot less slowly then alcohol IME.

Well it's in a cooler.. :) so it's partially airtight. Ummm i'll give anitifreeze/alcohol a try... the chiller will be at around -45c after mod is done.
