Ok, quick run down...

Current system: (never mind what my sig says, it's out of date)

DFI NF4-SLI DR
AMD 4400+
2 x 512 GSkill LE
REALLY OLD Matrox Millennium with a whopping 4 megs of VRAM!
2 x 74g Raptors Raid 0
Power PC & Cooling 510 SLI

I purchased a Big Typhoon yesterday and wanted to do a head to head versus the XP90 as it's already known as a great heatsink.

So, here's what I found.

Running my 4400+ at 2.7ghz (1.55v bios - 1.525v reported)

XP90 with 92mm Vantec Tornado at 7v (3000rpm) applied using Arctic Silver 5 (rice grain installation) I recorded this:

Room Temp: 26c (yes, it's a bit warm inside today)

Idle: 36c

Load (Two instances of Prime 95 for 20 min): 56c (HOT!)

Then with the Big Typhoon, stock fan applied using Arctic Silver 5 (rice grain installation) I recorded this:

Room Temp: 26c

Idle: 30c

Load (Two instances of Prime 95 for 20 min): 49c

Finally, I replaced the stock fan with a 120mm Panaflo (around 76cfm) and got these:

Room Temp: 26c

Idle: 29c

Load (Two instances of Prime 95 for 20 min): 45c

So... all in all, the Big Typhoon lived up to it's hype for me anyhow, I imagine once the paste sets in I'll see an additional 1c or more drop as well, seems to always be that way.

Also, seems the Panaflo really helped more then I expected, some people report only a 1 or 2c drop with a more powerful fan, others have seen more, I'm one of them, with a 4c drop I'm very happy... the funny thing is, the Panaflo is easily as quiet as the stock fan is.

Well, there you have it, quick results, long day... fun though, I'm pleased with this heatsink and very impressed in how it out performed the XP90.

Thank you very much for sharing. Here at XS nothing is more important in decision making as the experiences of the membership.

GRAFIZ,

Was that the XP90 or XP90C that you used for the comparison?

Good old plain XP90.

I wonder how it would be a TT BT vs Aquagate Mini 120 (or maybe 80). Here i can get both at the same price (well there is a little difference between them, 10 bucks maybe :) )

Yeah, I'd like to know that too, GRAFiZ, could you compare please?

Yes the TT Big Typhoon indeed performs well. I also want to share my experience of it so far. Well before I state the temp I just have to meantion the room temp, funny you think 26C is a lot, that's quite usual for me (no AC in this house), so I have to keep my window open if I want my room cooler.

Running my very poor overclocking Sandy 3700+ @ 2.71GHz 1.65V using TT Big Typhoon + AS5, haven't modified it or anything.

If the room temp is about 26C - 28C (hot summerdays for example) the cpu idles at ~34, full load ~44.

If room temp on the other hand is only 19 - 21C or so, the CPU idles at 27 - 29C, load ~39 - 41C.

At default speed & vcore it was ~25/26C idle and ~35/36C load.

IMO that's almost unbelievable for such a silent cpu fan as that. But it does the job and it does it very well even if it's resting only ~1cm above my gfx card that is running rather hot up to about 78C load in some games :)

I'd guess I'd need ~1.78V to reach load temps of 50C. So this cpu fan will prolly stay with me for a while :)
