EPoX 8RDA+ and internal diode?

Hi,

I just want to know whether the EPoX Board is able to read out the internal temperatur diode of the Athlon XP?
If so,is it possible to read it out with MBM?

I have an 8RDA+ and according to Epox Tech Support it reads temps from the terperature diode on board the CPU.

I don't use MBM5 so i can't really help you with that.:(

I know it at least uses it for the cpu shutdown feature. Here is how I have my MBM5 setup

CPU:winbond2
Mobo: WinBond3

Seems to be exactly like BIOS.

It does not read the internal diode for monitoring, only for shutdown. The temp you see in BIOS and in MBM reads from a thermistor that is actually in the ZIF socket under the pins. It's a stupid place for it.

man, that's a bummer. The one thing I didn't think to check on before I ordered one today. D*mn, I just assumed ~every~ new motherboard these days would read off the diode :rolleyes:

@brainstorm: i believe spqqky is right, the necessary components to read out ondie temp, are removed on the 8rda+

By the way, isn't it obvious? Those temps on my 8rda+ are WAY too low to be true.

Epox remove support for reading internal diode after 8k3a board, they got too manny stupid emails and quiestions from folks that don't have a clue, about why there temps were sudenly so hi, and all they did was changing the mobo :D
That's why I'll never sell that mobo, it is one of the very rare mobos that read internal diode.

Was the internal diode temp the temperature that you would find in the Bios? I always thought that my cpu temp was colder then it really was because I could run some fairly high voltage around 1.95V to 2V with it overclocked my xp1600 at around 2gig and it wouldnt' really go above 40-41C. When the cpu got to around 40C it seemed to get unstable so I thought maybe it was actually higher. Sadly i had to send it back cause it stopped working for the 2nd time and I got a 8RDA to replace it. Thanks for any info.

Anyone have any idea what Winbond 1 temp is? It was reading about 12C-17C but after a bios update its gone to reading around 5C. What exactly does this temp sensor monitor?

On air ? Basicaly the way to know you have temps. measured with internal diode is this. In mbm you set interval for sensor reading to 1sec. and then you go from idle to max load. if the sensor read internal diode it will jump almost the same second to 4-5 °C (water cooled) . On the other hand in socket diode is much slower so it wont show any quick changes of temperatures.
Btw for 8k3a in mbm for reading internal diode you have to choose Winbond Diode 2 for cpu sensor. And one last thing this wasn't working with from first bios release it was implemented a little later, but if you have any bios later then the best one 2815 it will work

yea I get one temp sensor on mine too that is like 12c...I think its a flaw because there is no way anything in my case is that cold.

Yes it was on air. SLK-800 with 80mm tornado. I also had AS3 on it. Do you think those were the right temps?

I hadn't actually seen any temps from 8rda's posted, so I didn't know. Oh well, I've lived without on-die temps since my celly 300A, I guess I can live a few more years without it...*lol*
