I vmodded the vcore to 1.7v using the VID mod and was able to get to 650 core before ATI TOOL freezes my whole computer. The funny thing is that it climbed all the way to 650mhz without artifects and all of a sudden it freezes (I was using the auto detect function)
Is this because of not enough vcore or not enough IGPU (the current protection mod)
any input is helpful. Thank you.

What type of cooling are you using for it ?

Hi there,
I used ATITool in this way too and found that it would sometimes hardlock the PC. That's using the Auto function. I think ATITool is a great, erm, tool, but it's a bit random like that sometimes.
I have an X850XT Vcore modded and I would say you need more core voltage, as I can bench all the way to 675 on 1.7 Vcore, whereas ATITool locked on me at lower clock speeds.
I'm using a very good watercooling system and a Silverprop HL, so temps aren't an issue here (38'C max IIRC).
Hope that helps?

1.7v of the old school swifttech waterblock. Load is about Max 40 C. I'll try to lower the resistor value on the IGPU and see what happens. Thanx

So manually raising the clocks in ati tool didn't help?
Atitool just runs mine up, untill it crashes, don't know why, it goes way past 700.. Doesn't give alot for it's clock detecting abilities ;) But usefull for artifact scanning..
