Xciter-----32 active CPUS in the last 24 hrs.... :eek2:

To all my non-super computer quantumn computing lab farm guys teammates.....

I'm adding a few more CPU's today .... lets get rocking! I notice a few newer teams are creeping up on us fast even with the unreal output from Angra ( Angra  ) and the dazzling display of Xciter (GULP!!! :toast: )

If there is anything I can do to help the dual core/chip enabled let me know :)

Looks like I'll have to go out to the shed and pull out my old ass P4 and Celery to crunch some more.:) I just need to find another lil HDD.

Good work guys!

Here's a thought for crunching of any kind I used to do when I was huge into seti@home... I'd set up rigs without drives of ANY kind except cheap 128 Meg flash drives with a simple install of Linux. I'm going to play with this over the next week and see if I can get a cheap version of this going for F@H

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work here as well!

For the guys with larger farms, I'll work to make the image bootable off a standard SAN (what I do) or NAS stored image. Maybe the other teams DC teams will benefit from this work as well.

I'll get some advice from the Linux guys on a teeny command line distro right now.

A few more..... maybe another dozen or so. :D

2 away from knocking you down to third, I almost don't feel right picking on one of my elders like this :p: :)

edit: Darn! I jumped 1 spot closer while I was typing this! :)

Dang XCiter, what is this pile of computation you have thrown our way? 163 CPU!

I am very curious what you are using, and what it's (or their) "other" purpose in life is!

Is this a permanent thing or just for a few days? I'd love to not devastate the group's production when I have to start scaling back!

Xciter
10-07-2005, 09:41 AM
It's only temporary, just through the weekend. What I switched over to 36362 is about 1THz of P4's and Xeon's. Most likely 300 to 400 systems will drop WU's for 36362.

Just enough to drop John to second place and give youre team a smal;l boost :D

I think Xciter is picking on an easy target in Pythagoras... On a daily basis three of us are outproducing poor John.

I think Xciter with that horsepower SHOULD be gunning for Angra :) I have no idea if Angra has anything left in the magic PC rack to fight back with :D so he may be an easy taget too...What do you guys think?

Uhmmm Xciter... Holy uh... what's the word... JEEPERS will do...175 active processors!!!!! :weapon: Crud....

I think John needs to get some of those rigs under phase or chilled water seeing as he has all the technology hmmm? Anyone watching his silversmithing thread? I'm just going to cheat and keep adding boxes until I catch up :D

:bounces: :fight:

Twiggy is outproducing me today... I need to add another box :cheer2:

I only have 16 CPUs not running folding at the moment. OK maybe 20 if I scrounge.

Xciter can definitely take me down. I'd be thrilled for it to happen 'cause the team would be the benificiary.

I am curious what all that horsepower is, though. Do you have a cluster? What does it do when it isn't folding?

Xciter
10-07-2005, 10:49 AM
They are anything from new dual/quad Xeon servers yet to go into production to end users desktops. The company I work for allows me to fold on selected hardware... and I only use a 1/4 of what I have avalible to me... to hard to fold on them all.

angra
10-07-2005, 10:59 AM
very cool.

my cluster is a software research testbed. I do research in the area of methods for doing parallel software programming that are not as complicated, difficult, unintuitive, and expensive as the current ways people go about such programming.

one thing that is nice is that with this cluster, its not tied up for days/weeks/months at a time running production simulations like most clusters are. so I can fold when the research users aren't doing much.

:D

Glad I could help! At this stage in the game I've already reached every possible goal I could set for myself in folding... so as long as I'm folding, I don't mind helping out friends now and then.

I could add more but didn't feel like changing the 100 or so laptops that fold for me over... even though they are all fast machines, they are only set to do timeless WU's so they don't add a whole lot.

Thanks Xciter, you have more than bent over backwards to give us a hand and we can SEE the results... damnation..... I'm hoping you can give me a hand with pushing some clients out in the fashion you seem to be managing to do in a corp environment. I could use the advice and I have access to a fair bunch of machinery.

my msn handle is on my profile, I'd love to discuss sometime.

UnG, I don't use IM programs too often, but feel free to email me via the forums or ask John for me email address, I'll be happy to give you a hand. Although my method of running the client isn't used much, it's fairly safe in a corporate work place.
