hi guys, i did pencil mod @1.45 volt, but i get artifact without more clock, before the mod i can bench 580 core without artifact, but after pencil mod @ 1.45 volt i get artifact with 580, even with 560 core, is pencil mod not so good??? variable resis is better? or i have put it higher than 1.45 volt? hm, 1.6 volt? 1.7 volt? (with vr) will it be better? i need 600 core =o)

I got my Connect3d GTO yesterday, and I have some preliminary results:
-The card modded successfully to 16pipes
-The stock cooler was noisy as hell at 100% :D (and not very efficient IMO)
-On water now, idle temps 31/37; load temps 42/41 @ around 20 ambient (Venice 3000 @314x9 1,52v in same loop)
-I am doing max mem/max core as we speak, the mem has been artifact free for 100min+ at 585mhz, seems like the core does at least 550mhz
To sum it up: I am thoroughly hardware- happy :D, beats several GTO2s @ only 75% price and beyond bang for the bucks toghether with my 3000 Venice

I will update my post with final speeds, a few benchies perhaps and a pic of the core

Well, this isnt anything people already dont know, but all GTO2s are not created equal....

I managed to kill my first one and only now do I realize how nice it was to be able to do 670/620 with water and Vmods. The cards death was really quite strange. Basically, it would only work at PCI-E 2x regardless of slot. Very odd... this choke point in bandwidth made a noticeable dent in benchmarks even though the clocks were able to stay high. It was R480 core of course, made 0452.

I recieved another one today with core date of 0502 and I figure I should get similiar results. I fully mod it with sinks and Vmod before it sees first light. Finally get it all setup and its just a dog! Will just barely do x850 clocks of 540/590 on stock volts. at 1.6vgpu, I can just make 600/600 stable in ATI Tool.

Now I know this is still quite a bit of something for nothing, but I was surprised to see such a variance...

It will get me by til R580.

I'm working on finding the most stable oc for my card, so far I've done 3d05 at 580/575, but suddenly ATI Tool starts finding artifacts even at a lot lower speeds, that's why I started thinking maybe the card was underpowered. I have a fan blowing at the power regulators too. The temps are all good.

Just got a sapphire x800gto runs 570/570 on stock cooler/volts and has the 480 core :toast: (580 core it locked up) (still not tried over 570 mem) BTW its 2.0ns

Now i flashed it 5 times 5 diff bios it says successful everytime but still only 12 pipes :slap:

Am i just going to have to live with 570core/570mem on stock everything :confused:

Another thing this asus an8 sli motherboard does it have hidden settings in bios ? like ctrl & f1 :confused:

I just finished testing of nearly 50 Connect3D X800GTO cards, and I have some bad news to tell.

None of the cards could be unlocked.
Every single card has a lasercut and permanently disabled pipelines.

It made no difference to connect the cutted trace and flash the bios.

ERA of the GTO cards is over :(

Connecting the lasercut doesn´t have any effect to unlocking the pipelines.
ATITool shows 0xFFFFF71F value as Substrate_Fuses (instead of 0xFFFFF71E) when the lasercut is reconnected.

As you can see ATITool reports 0x660 as ROM_FUSES in above picture, so all of the pipelines are enabled by the bios. The other pictures show value of 0x861 which tells that only 12 pipelines are enabled by the bios.

ATI has probably disabled the pipelines internally from the chip. With the current knowledge there isn´t a way to activate the additional pipelines if ATITool reports anything else as DIE_Fuses than 0xXXXXFXXX (X = varchar).

To check if your card has a lasercut or not, start ATITool, press swift, and click settings (only ATITool versions 0.25 Beta 8 and newer support this feature)

If ATITool reports as Substrate_Fuses:

0xFFFFFXXE = Your card has a lasercut
0xFFFFFXXF = Your card has no lasercut

Now when finaly got ahold of them i found out they cant be modded anymore.........i have them comming from distributer in hungary that got them in stock last monday they must be the same batch as those 50 unlockable :( :( :( just my luck

I've read the instructions for vmodding X850 cards. I only want to perform a vgpu mod to roughly 1.4-1.5v depending on the overclock. I'm currently sitting at 594/621 but want to run at least 610 on the core. Does anyone have a completed picture of how a modded vgpu X800GTO² looks like? I understand your image won't be 1.4-1.5v....but I just want to see a picture before proceeding with the mod.

I've just done some vmodds om my c3dgto.

If i raise vdd, it doesn't help for my mem clocks.
But if i raise vddq i get much better mem clocks.

Atm im using vf700 stock ram coolers so i can't give them as much power as i want to.

But anyways @ 2.16v vddq i can bench @ 630mhz at mem without any graphic bugs 3dmark05-03-01 <,<

But i use 590mhz as my 24/7 setting.

My point is what function has vdd? I doesn't help my mem clocks but if raise just a bit i can go higher on core without any blackscreens.

Stock: 570/560 was max 24/7
With vddq 2.16v it became 570/590
And when i increased the vdd(Just a little bit ~0.05v) i got 10mhz on core.
So right now its running 580/590 24/7

Im going for vgpu as soon as i get my new cooler.

Just finished the mods of GTO² T.S.A Edition (prototype).
This card is supposed to be used by customers, so I made the mods little different this time.
I didn´t use a resistor for GPU mods, but I used VIDs instead. The voltage can be adjusted via jumpers so the customers do not necessarily need a multimeter. They just have to install the jumpers correctly and they will know exactly how much voltage is fed to gpu. The gpu voltage can be adjusted between 0.00V - 2.00V, but the warranty is voided if 1.65V exceeded ;)

Since VDD & VDDQ voltage cannot be changed by VIDs I used variable resistors with safety features. The voltage can be adjusted up to 2.35V. There is another variable resistor added in cirquit (one for VDD & VDDQ) to make sure that the resistance doesn´t drop below certain point (that corresponds 2.35V).

I used some Microcool and Coolermaster heatsink for the power regulation components.
As usual, I attached them with Arctic Silver Adhesive.

For the gpu I added custom made 600g pure copper heatsink.
It can keep the gpu temperature under 50c in full load and 700MHz clocks.

I had to run some 3DMark05 with the last version of the "prototype" card.
The card is pretty much an average overclocker, but it is still doing pretty nice with quite weak fan. I selected 1.60V for the gpu, and 2.2V for the memory (VDD & VDDQ).
The memory will be doing much higher, once I install the heatsinks.

I tested them with stock cooling and voltages in high temperature enviroment.
I tested the cards with ATITool max gpu & memory frequency scanning.
I picked up the best cards (40pcs), and only few of this amount will get some further processing...

The best cards did 610MHz - 630MHz gpu and 600MHz - 635MHz memory with stock cooling. Because I didn´t want to use the best cards for testing (prototype), I picked up an average card that did 590Mhz gpu and 613MHz memory at stock.

These mods that I use, will make almost any card run like hell ;)

been playing with my gto2 some more today as been experiencing problems with stability in some games.
i put the vdd up to 2.3 a while back, and didnt think much of it, but ive gradually been haing to lower my mem clocks over the weeks as games kept crashing.
ran atitool artifact scan and the mem wasnt even stable @ 605, so i thought i might aswell lower the vdd as it probably dosent need as much at lower clocks, so i put it back to 2.2 and artifact scanned and it went straight up to 630, and has kind of settled @ 625 artifact free, the ram is heatsinked and has a 120mm fan blowing across it, rather strange i thought

Its a pitty that My GTO craps out at 660. does 660 at 1.6VGPU, but even 1.75 VGPU doesnt help it one bit.

I'd stick with 1.6v. 1.7 will decrease the life of the chip to levels in which it might die/reduce overclock by the time you want to get a new video card.

Also the gains from 1.6v to 1.7v are superficial at best and will NOT be noticed in every day use.

TBH, I run at 1.49v everyday to keep the temps and wattage down. No sense in pushing it to the max for every day use. Infact, in windows I underclock the gpu significicantly to reduce power usage.

My C3D GTO flashed no problems...


God a weird thing going on though, this thing i have had up to 525 core so far no problems, stock cooler was holding me back at like 60c though.

So i put on my zalmann VF700, and temps go WAY up, like 120c loaded, but core still clocks fine, ive checked contact twice, its perfect, the core leaves an imprint on my zalmann. Now, i would just ignore the high temps and keep clocking, but i think the cards got a saftey mechanism of some sort and it shuts off my pc if it runs that hot for over a minute.

is there something i dont know?

Well ive found my stock max's in ATItool 0.24. Core:627 and Mem:634 i have the ati silencer by the way and my temps are 50/38 in artifact testing at 600/600 for 60min no errors found..is this long enough to get a good idea on the stablility of these settings?.
When i say stock i mean it hasnt been flashed to 16p yet. Im not to sure as to what i should run my vid card at 24/7 i wanna keep it for atleast!! 1 1/2 years.

I just finished testing of my Sapphire X800GTO&#178; card, this time cooled with R507 compressor.

The score is way too low since the 3DMark05 doesn&#180;t like too much of Intel P4 cpus. I&#180;m also running with Windows 2003 Server OS, so with Dothan or Athlon 64 cpu and Windows XP the score would be few hundred points bigger.

Anyways I achieved 106% overclock for GPU with Vapochill LS cooling.
I was able to run all tests through at 816MHz GPU speed with 1.78V vgpu voltage.

Unfortunately this is the "production" version of the card, so the highest available VDD & VDDQ voltage is 2.25V. With tight ("Eshbach") timings the memory maxed out at 645MHz.

The memory or it´s power cirquit is probably running too hot.
Enhance the cooling and you will probably see higher overclocks.

It is just a normal Catalyst 5.13 display driver from ATI website, with changed device name for 5D52/1600/1002 gfx.

this sure is an odd card.. the thing crashes before it startrs artifacting lol, i got temps down to around 45'c with my zalmann, and itll run rught up to 591 just fine, 600 crashes without artifacts, so its got to be heat.

anyways, im going to try and mount an old AXP thermalright SP-94 onto it. That should do the trick hehe.

Would flashing to the C3D X800XT Bios be a good idea?

My card restarts my comp at 627 gpu and i get artifacts for memory at 637. So for the gpu i have to raise the voltage?!?!? to get it higher....hmmm ok is there anyway to do this without vmodding? like through windows/dos or somthing? and whats the stock voltage this card runs at..

i just bought a gto2 from overclockers.co.uk
the card is a vivo dual dvi card with r480 core 16 pipe enabled stock
out of the box max gpu 515 higherst ram i have tested 600.
flashed with the modded techpowerup bios and still the same.
i have a vgpu mod but the lowest it will set the vgpu is 1.49 it will go past 530 gpu but is stil unstable. gpu temp showed 62C but the whole card as realy warm ram was almost hot to the touch.
i think with better cooling it will go higher.
still very happy with the performance at 500 / 600 for the price.

It does 640mem 590core on stock cooler/volts but locks up in 3d tests. 580/640 is stable :D

Would flashing to x850xtpe raise voltages maybe give me higher core ?

Would i make things worse with it already having 16pipes open ?

Then I overclocked to about 580-590/640 is my maximum.
So I think it's because of cooling, so I changed it to water cooling.
The temperature drops a little bit, so I try to overclock it again.
And it's can go only 590/650, if it goes just a little higher, the screen is going to be frozen and it just shuts down.

What about you guys??? Do you have the same problem???
Or this is the maximum that this card can go???

as said on the page before this one, newer ati cards dont artifact, they just lock up, its not temps, its volts, you need more.

Have Sapphire X850 GTO² 12p @ 16 p
actually running 540 Core and 600 Mem (So 1200) (ATI Tool 0.24)

Both GPU and VGA ram modules are on water.

Issue is :
When running intensive games, i get some strange little artefacts :

Demo NFS Most Wanted
Far Cry 1.3
BF2
Halo 1.2
x-plane 8 also....can't run it 1280x1024 full details with this set...A64+X800 GTO² modded :(

I think those are due to heat or a lack of voltage....but the entire water circuit won't go higher than 44° overall temp....minimum fan level ;)

I've read that other members have this issue.

Bad serie R480 chips?/Bad ram modules??/??

yup thermalright SP-94... IMO much better then an XP-90... but less compatible ;)...

my rig can be dead silent but i turn fans up just a bit for gamin to keep cpu cool, have a TT BT on the way to fix that though.

anyways in ati tool with 580mhz it gets to maybe 38c under artifact scanning. This is about 20c cooler then with a vf-700 for me.

edit -most up the time my OCZ PS520w is louder then the rest of my rig... someday ill end up with a seasonic i guess.

edit 2 - personnaly i always use the latest cats...im not that hardcore though.
