View Full Version : What the Hell? CPU temps...

This morning, I found my PC unclocked back to stock.

Now, at stock, my CPU is running at 53*C Idle and 61*C Load.

If was 37*C Idle and 53*C load before...

The last thing I've done is mod the 6600GT's BIOS so that I can read the 6600GT's temps.

And the last time I saw temps like these was when I had just gotten the Abit AV8 mobo and it had the original BIOS which reported INCORRECT temps. When I updated the BIOS to the latest version, the temps were correct to the 37/53 temps.

Aww. I JUST saw the PM. I posted this one thinking the other one had been deleted earlier because it was in the wrong forum or something.

I was about to delete this 2nd post after getting the pm.

lol, comedy of errors... anyhow...

That is a weird problem you have there, has your BIOS been corrupted? have you tried a reflash?

No, I haven't reflashed yet, but thats the first thing I plan on doing. Do windows-based programs get their temps from the BIOS because they're also reporting the same high temps.

The only thing I've done that MIGHT have prompted this is an update/unlock to the 6600GT's BIOS so that it would give the card's temps. It MIGHT have messed with the Mobo BIOS.

More likely it's just a corruption of the BIOS, it does happen, we've seen it around here on different mobos once in a while... reflash the BIOS and do a long CMOS clear....

Will do it tonight. I have to go somewhere right now though.

I've only had this PC for 3 weeks, could the BIOS have been corrupted in this much time? Or was it the overclocking that resulted in the corruption?

Probably the overclocking, or it restarted itself in "safe" fashion after a failed boot.

Hmm, yea, the first time I booted it up this morning, it did say something about the "safe" boot thing. I don't remember exactly though.

Right now, when I tried to update the BIOS it froze while updating. Could it have been because I'm installing a BIOS thats already there?

Should I try to reset the CMOS?

I reset the CMOS. Temps are back to normal. Thanks for your help.
