Hey, my first post here :)

Anyway, I have been thinking about which hsf to get for my x2 3800 in a P180 on a DFI ultra D mobo, and i have narrowed it down to TT Big Typhoon and the Scythe ninja.... i would probably put a panaflo L1A on whichever one of these heatsinks i would get. Can anyone give me a comparison of these 2 coolers and whether my fan selection is appropriate?

Thanks a lot : :)

Welcome! :welcome:

At low CFM, the BT really pulls away.....so I'd recommend that.

Thanks :) .... i have been on anandtech for like 2 months asking them what to get for my rig and just reading all the new crap that's coming out and just found out about you guys... u all seem really knowledgable.

About the BT .... is there anyone that did tests on both. I have seen like no reviews testing both of these coolers.... which is weird because they are both great from what i understand. Should i be worried about the weight of the BT? Will it warp my mobo, etc?

Thanks :)

The BT really does own at low CFM, that's been proven over and over (although none of the reviews I've seen have included the Ninja--but I'm still 99% sure it beats it) and can compete with pretty good watercooling at higher CFM.

There is no worry of warping your board.

The thing is... from what I understand... the ninja is also a great performer. But i guess you guys know what you are talking about a lot more than me :) so i'll just trust you.... i'd still love to hear someone elses opinion on this as well.

What do you think about my choice of fan by the way?

Interesting.... where do you guys think the Big Typhoon would be on that chart? Below/above the ninja? :)

waahaha...welcome to xtreme entropy!

far less fanboys here! (still existent tho, but not like all the thermalright whores of AT)

here...people do xtreme things, sometimes ghetto things....to get the last mhz :toast:

i have the scythe ninja with an m1a and it does a great job, 31c idle 39c load im not sure on the ambient (sorry)
thats on a 3200+ venice @1.58v

i havent tested the bt, but my guess it would be close to those results, i think ive only seen one review that compared the two, and it had the ninja on top, but their results were very questionable

anyway, i dont think you could lose with either

What fan do you guys suggest I put in this thing? I don't mind some noise... but i wouldn't go from like 25dba to 32 dba for 1 degree for example... but i think i would for 3 :)

M1A would probably be fine then.

Doesn't the L1A have a better cfm/dba ratio?

35.5 seems kinda high.... even tho to be honest i dont really know what that is in real life :)

Whatever your fancy man....L1A would also be nice.

m1a is kinda loud compared to what's stock on the tt bt, l1a would be a better bet if noise is an issue

maybe too late but be sure that u know , using the BT will not let u have a good active cooling on ur ram and if u placed 2 fans not one the other one will be arount 4mm away from the back of ur vga card

i bought this h/s and it is the best thing i have tried in my life for air cooling but still it i needed to cool my VX ram that is why i am selling it and getting the XP-90 for 25$ from svc.com

hmm so would a ninja be better for that?

i don't know about the size and they way fo placing the ninja since the cpu bracket is placed vertically not as the other mobos horizantly

so why not stick to the XP-90 and free up ur mind from those problems and the heavy weight problem specially

personnaly i am very interested in the new ThermalRight H/S Xi-120

ninja are very loud, but Tt BT with default cooler are unaudible in case.

mrapples

the ninja is only as loud as the fan you put on it...

as for ram cooling with the ninja, it can be done, but its a tight fit
my orange slot closest to the socket is under the clips for the hs

So another fan is not really too helpful if i get the BT? would sticking with the stock fan be a good idea?

Will the bt mount to an ihsless cpu easily or does the mount need to be modded?

SaFrOuT

also i prefer a Tt BigTyphoon and replace the 120mm stock fan

i have seen some owners having very very great results with the above setup that they got better load temps than using a XP-90

The mount is not the problem, it goes on a nekkicd core fine. But if you have a DFI board, it uses a non standard back plate and therefore you will require longer screws.

The Ninja and also Sonic Tower seem like good alternatives to the Big Typhoon if you are one who is looking for something different.

how is the xp120 7-9 degrees worse than the si120?

bogus results if you ask me

check dnottis' big typhoon thread for the exact part numbers, but most people got them from lowes
