Subject says it all: where can I find wallpaper-able pictures of chips, I mean the die or the wafer, similar to this, just in pretty and if possible high-res?

try google images, use search terms like chip silicone unmounted pretty etc... Google is a friendly and easy to use consumer search engine....

Take them yourself ! ;) Take apart old pc boards,tv' and any other electronic device that may have chips on them. Get yourself a soldering iron, de-soldering wick and a de-soldering pump(solder sucker) and practice removing them . You can practice your soldering skills while taking pics.

Ps: It would be cool to start a chip collection like some people collect stamps. That would be a cheap hobby to remove ,photograph and collect them. You can even Research what each is used for or what it does to further your understanding of electronic design and engineering.

I did the google images thing, of course. It is not that easy, "die" alone comes up with gruesome non-computer stuff, putting specific chips into the terms (like "AMD") narrows it down too much.

I hope somebody knows of a specific site, or section of AMD's or Intel's site, where somebody puts them up, e.g. for press feeding purposes.

i used terms like chip wafer, artistic chip photos, chip lithography process etc... I came up with hundreds of shots simply by varying the search terms... some are pretty sweet.... nice hobby
