Hi all,

I have a new rig that consists of DFI Ultra-D, X2 4400+, 2GB Ballistix Tracer and a BFG 7800GTX.

I have a Vapo LS on the 4400 wich runs fine, the issue I have is the water/80W tec on the 7800.

Since I built the rig I have been unable to run RTHDRIBL or any 3d game for longer than 5 minutes, infact RTHDRIBL froze the system straight away, starting with a screen lock, then freezing the mouse and rebooting. Funny thing is I can complete 3dm03 all the time.I must add that the temp was always stuck on 31C.

I left it a bit then tonight I decided to install one of the 7800 BIOS's listed on here, first it was the one with the temp mon enabled. booted up checked temp and it was listed as -4c (Very cold), tried RTHDRIBL and it locked. Rebooted and ran 03 to "warm" it up, then ran RTHDRIBL and it then ran ok for 20 mins until I stopped it. mmm.. I thought. So I then installed the cold fix bios, which locked the temp at 31c (So I guess the stock bios already had the "fix"), ran RTHDRIBL and it locked again. BUGGER

So I rebooted, unplugged the TEC, watched the temp go up to around 65c then ran RTHDRIBL, ran fine first time and is still running now as I type, temp was rising. At 85c I plugged the TEC back in. Now the temp is back at 31c so I guess its below threshhold.

So the question is Why ? It seems that having the GPU to cold causes issues with certain 3D apps. Although 03 runs fine. Is it my card or is there something I should know? Is it an RMA job? - 2d clock is 275, maybe I should set it the same as the 3d core clock like my 6800U ? wich never had these problems with same water/tec setup.

Can anyone help me please, I have never had this "To cold issue" and im not sure what to do about it.

Thanks for any info you can give,

Brett

PS, sorry for long post.

pretty sure its the cold bug, if you look around you should find the bios that fixes it.

Thanks for the reply, TBH I tried most of the BIOS's available and still no joy.

No matter though, Ive got rid of the TEC and installed a Swifty MCW55 Block. Im more than happy with this at the moment. idle less than 31C(Bios restrict) load about 40-45 wich is sweet. running stable at 520core so far.

Also at 260FSB on my X2 4400+, need some tweaking of the ram (Ballistix tracer) to get a stable prime above this, multipliers I guess. Everything is stable at 270 but Prime fails first test.

I now LOVE my new rig, with this DFI, CPU, GPU, RAM and the new Enermax 600w Noistaker I bought I have a whole lot of tweaks to do yet. At the moment 260 1:1, with 520 on the gpu is rock solid.

Been a P4 boy for a year though, need to get used to this DFI board with all its weird AMD technobabble ;)
