eVGA GeForce 6600GT @ 550/1000 running at 80*C at load too high?

wow that's really hot lol. you need some badass cooling on that thing.

But all the owners of GeForces that I've heard from are saying that its usually that high with stock cooling.

Its an ok temp, nothing dangerous, but not that great either.

so i suggest replacing the stock cooler with a zalman vga cooler.

Just one more question. I'm using RivaTurner to Overclock the card. Obviously, at some time, it says that the settings that I've set are too high and I cannot go past that. Is this determined by the clock speed I set or by the temp of the card?

And are artifacts also determined by the temp of the card?

Basically, I'm asking if buying the Zalman VGA Cooler will let me overclock farther.

I have an eVGA 6800nu that won't overclock 2 Mhz past stock in Coolbits before it tells me it is too high, stock is 325/700. I tried Riva Tuner with the same results, but with Powerstrip I can get to 415/845 as the max overclock. I am using the NV Silencer but I can almost guarantee you that I wouldn't have been able to hit those speeds with the stock cooler.

But still, will having the card perform cooler give me more overclockability?

Or will artifacts appear nonetheless?

A.But still, will having the card perform cooler give me more overclockability?

B.Or will artifacts appear nonetheless?
A. Generally yes.
B. I don't give a crap if your video card core is located in the middle of the Artic Tundra, at some point you will reach the limit and get artifacts. So yes artifacts will continue to appear but probably at higher clocks.
