I was trying to set up DIMES on an older secondary comp the other day, and it would install fine, but it would not load. Kept telling me "The main window could not be opened". I've got the latest version of Java on the rig and the hardware should be up to spec for DIMES at least(Socket A Thunderbird, 1.4 Ghz.). So the only thing I can conclude is that ME is not supported by DIMES. Is there something I'm missing, and does anyone have any advice or helpful hints?

The IP layer in ME is not compatible with the calls Java is making as far as I know. Just because it (ME) loads the correct JVM doesn't mean the IP layer is compliant on the OS....

If it will run ME, it will run 2000 or linux

Doesn't work in Win95 or 98 either.

So thats why it would never load up on my p2...

At first I thought the 300 mhz chip didn't meet some minimum requirement. :(

(Its never getting used often so might as well make it do something)

Yeah you are way better off on low performance machinery with a base win2k or Linux install. The IP layers of both are compliant to the needs of the latest rev of the JVM.

Win2k is out of the question..but which Linux? There are so many of them and so far i've only booted up and used an Ubuntu live-CD afew times, so i'm a newbie to that OS. :(
