hi,

i have five 120mm intake fans, and i was wondering if putting fan filters in to stop dust is really necessary, is it? i would have fan grills instead

thanks for voting

No.

Filters get clogged up with dust fast, and you will be forever cleaning them.
Will restrict air flow.
Increase noise (if fan is close to the filter).

Every 3-6 month, just use a air compressor and give your entire pc clean out. Nothing beats a clean with air under pressure, e.g. power supply.

if u want best performance no filters but u need to clean it quite often..in my case i had to take the pc apart because dust hides everywere!!! u need accurate cleaning once in a while and just air compressor i would say once a month:D:D

No.

Filters get clogged up with dust fast,

if they get clogged fast think about all that dust going inside the pc!!this means cleaning often the pc!

i have 120mm air filters and i am very satisfied with it.
it's washable and i wash it 1 in 1-2month with plain water.
my pc is dust free for 3 months now.
doesn't restrict airflow to much for me... without filter i get 1c lower at temperature

I filter the air going in to my PC, I hate cleaning PC's and I want my DVD burners is as pristine a shape as I can get....

Of course, if you have good airflow and no or few dead spots for the air you won't get a lot of dust buildup in the first place because it won't get a chance to settle. You'll get some, just not as much as you might be led to believe by the buildup you could see on your filters.

As far as the noise goes, the amount you'll get will depend on the type of filter you use as well.

I used dust filters for 2 years now any will never go back. :p:
I have a windowed case and really like to be clean also my kandalf case has very easy to remove filters so no big deal for me.

I have filters on my P180 and they are amazing, I cleaned out the inside of my computer the other day to see if they have been working, no dust inside. Sure you have to clean the filters every so often, but it beats having to clean the entire computer. I'd say use em but if your load temps are getting too high take em off :D

Weird thing about mine, they actually make my front fans more quiet, without them there is a lot of turbulence

Speaking of dust and side panels... I currently have a cheap Aspire Dreamer case and used to get a lot of dust building up on the plastic window. Eventually I realized that it was because while the computer is on it very slowly builds up a static charge (something I considered extremely bad)... I remidied it by strapping a few lines of shiny red wire accross it in neat looking lines, letting it ground itself on the chassis. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone here happened to have a similar issue with dust buildup on plastic side windows.
