Hello.
Before you flame my topic, let me tell you I already did a couple of searches. They gave me general results, I want more specific answers.
I have some questions regarding the E6 modeled AMD64 CPU's:
- What is exactly E6? New revision or some stepping? (similar to CG at the old S754?)
- When was the first sighting?
- What are the improvements over the old E4?
- On what CPU's you can find the new E6? Does all new AMD CPU's are E6?
- Let's say I'm buying a X2 3800+.. How can I know i'm getting a E6 one?
- What are the currently best steppings/weeks for X2?
Thanks a TON in advance.

E6 is an improved (?) E3, it has nothing to do with E4 which is the silicon revision that San Diego uses.
E6 doesn't seem to be much different than E3. It just might be that E6 is only a hardware bug fix:

I thought the e6 was a failed x2 where one core wouldnt do the required frequency and so dropped one core. Im not sure if this is true, maybe i even imagined reading it now i think of it.......afaik they add new dividers for mem that are only present on x2's anyway.

Well for the X2 3800 with the CD in the top line is a toledo core which is an E6 rev. Now the X2 3800 with the BV is a manchester core E4 rev.

So it's better getting a Toldeo core right?
But wait, Toledo is meant to be 2x1MB L2, does the 3800+ has a 512kb disabled in each core?
Also, I've heard that the latest E6 3800+ have a better OC potential than it's heavier brothers, like the 4400+. Is that true?

Well the toledo core for the X2 3800 is still 512 its half the cache disabled. I wouldnt say that the toledo 3800 is better than the manchester 3800 or vice versa. I would say its luck of the draw cuz you never know. I have tested a few different ones and my findings are that the manchester's are doing better. But thats just the ones I have tested. There are plenty of E6 3800's that are oc'in really well so like I said you never know.
