SO I'm looking around... and want to buy a new notebook. I want:

1) Gaming ability, so no o/b graphics chips with shared DDR.

2) A/V ability, want to record the Titans football game and take it with me when I go somewhere and watch PRIMO quality DVD's on flights or roadtrips.

3) fairly light and compact with good battery life.

4) For about $1300

Yeah, I know the response, DREAM ON!! Right? Well, probably :D But the Toshiba Qosmio ($3000) hits the mark but at 2x the price.

lol... so I probably need Pentium M, 740, 15" WUXGA, ATI X300/64M minimum, X600/128M would be better. 512mB ram, 1gB would be better. ANd need 80gb minimum HDD for the TV recording!

Ideas?

I'd prefer DELL or Toshibadirect or someone that offers 0% apr or good stuff to take advantage of.

$450 over the budget, but includes 1GB DDR, TV Tuner, Dothan 1.73Mhz 533FSB, 6800 Ultra ;)

If you scrap that TV Tuner option and get one yourself, an external USB TV Tuner, then you might be able to save around $100 on that ;)
ATI X300 instead Ultra and another $200 in your pocket ;)

I've been having the hardest time too. My biggest problem is after years and years of corporate laptops (IBM and Toshibas were the norm) I got used to the trackpoint nipple mouse and get aggrivated by touchpads.. Which pretty much leaves me to the trusty old stinkpad now, highly overpriced units for the performance you get :( I was looking @ the Asus barebones since I have an extra dothan 740, but I just can't quite make up my mind. If I can find a great deal on ebay for a T43 I'll probably jump on it.

mmmm, I'm typing a acer aspire 9104WLMi here (P-M 760; X600-128; 3,5 hours of battery life, tv tuner,512Mb, 80GB hard drive...) for the mere price of €1350, a bit over your price and it's a acer, but it works great!
it must be possible to find a lappie like the one you want...

good luck with searching! :toast:
