Its easy to cut it out, you just need patience.

The magnetic lasso wouldnt be so accurate because it could grab other color scales around it.
Im guessing he used a really thin pen (between 1-3 pixels) in a color that's not in the picture (like pure green [color code 00FF00]) or it could also be a really thin erraser. If you are using the erraser, you need a background layer preferably white. Then you would zoom in a lot and trace the picture bit by bit. Afther that, you just cut off the area inside the traced line and place it on a new image with a different background layer.

I would of used the erraser, since it already leaves the edges blank

...I just need him as a render in PSD format and in a zip or rar fomrat would be greatly appreciated...

Zipping or "RARing" a image wont do much to make it smaller. The only way to make it smaller would be to save it as a certain file format and lose a bit of image quality.
Saving it as a high res .jpeg or .gif format still looks about the same to my eyes, but that may be my blurry 19" CRT :p: One of the reasons why I should get a LCD by now :D

Yeah, it's a certain technique for photoshop with the pen tool, basically like the polygonal lasso tool, but you can step back if you create a mistake. I make my path, then make the selection with anti-aliasing, then erase all of the flawed edges.

When I cutout images to be placed on other images with a background, I use levels and several other lighting adjustments to make the cutout contrast well with the background. It takes alot of practice with photoshop to be able to master cutouts.

BTW: Your welcome Noxious, you just happened to post when I was bored :P

Or you could just have a really really REALLY good mouse and trace the contour with the regular lassoo and then invert select to get the parts you overdid, then invert select again and get the parts you missed.

Then again your way is just way the hell easier =P.

hmmm I would just paint it out with a layer mask, that seems like the most time effective thing to do.

uuuuuhhhhh, CRT monitors are way better quality (well the new ones that is) than LCD's

rule of thumb with photoshop: the better your aim is in fps games, the better your extractions will be. i dont use the lasso tool anymore because im better than it now :) straight eraser baby!
