:)
Hello
I have a Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro advantage Video card.
I have a couple of TEC's sitting around, (taken off of 12V DC coolers).
I'd like to put one on the v-card
Do I need a coldplate betweet the TEC and the card?
I'd be cooling the TEC with the waterblock that came in the
Kingwin Arctic Cooler, (AWC-1) kit.
When you remove the chrome cover off the wb, the block is copper.
My water system has two 2-302's and a couple extra rad's also so
the added heat is not a problem.
I'd be powering the TEC with a 20Amp 13.5VDC switching PSU.
Any thoughts from the TEC guy's??
Thanks

the coldplate will help distribute the heat more evenly on the tec so yes you will need one

The coldplate helps to regulate the temperature, TEC temperatures fluxuate sharply, suppose that the TEC temp suddenly changes 20C, such a change directly on the GPU might crash the system, but the coldplate prevents this temp change from reaching the GPU directly and makes the temperatures change gradually.

Nope.
see post #1
except where he says "helps", it pretty much does all of the spreading

OK
So what if I used a waterblock as the "Coldplate"?
So it would be,
GPU/Waterblock/TEC/WaterBlock.
Has anybody tried that one?

Are you going to drill holes in the TEC so that the waterblock's barbs can stick through it? Or what?

Why wouldnt you just put the tec on the gpu?

"Why wouldnt you just put the tec on the gpu?"
See above posts!
"Are you going to drill holes in the TEC so that the waterblock's barbs can stick through it"
NOT, I'd be using "the waterblock that came in the Kingwin Arctic Cooler, (AWC-1) kit"
Like most GPU blocks I'm sure, {side entry} BARBS.
I would run the water from the pump, (second loop),
thru the coldplate-waterblock,(TEC coldside),
then thru maybe the RAM or chipset water blocks then back thru the TEC, (hotside)
waterblock, then off to rad.
Thats what I have in mind for the system.
Of course I haven't looked at the room required for this mess yet but,
looking at my surfer system I would loose at least one if not two PCI slots! Yuck!
Just to much time on my day off! (surfing to much) lol

buy a 5mm. copper plate and cut it to size and polish it. done coldplate

TEC will perform much better with a high clamping pressure.
This is why your better off buying a propper TEC block, than trying to retro fit a TEC to an existing waterblock.
TEC will not work very well AT ALL if you dont use a coldplate. At best temps will be awfull. At worst you will break something.

i meant with a standard coldplate Watercooling a tec so that it can cool water is a bit redundant for my taste and the results are not great and the price to performance is horrible

maybe so but,
If you have all the parts just sitting around,
Why not put to use?
I killed one of the 12 VDC coolers so now it's just another bag with carry strap and
zipper top with side pouch.
The other cooler was a hard-side and I put it back together for archery season.
As far as "clamping pressure", thats why I wanted to use the water block in the
first place, with the chrome cover removed there are 4 mounting holes threaded
for use as clamping to the other waterblock with TEC sandwitched between.

OK
I ordered a "Maze 4-1 with TEC"
From DD yesterday
When it gets here I'll look it over and problebly think I can
pull a "McGiver", Mr. Gadget type something on it. :nono: :slapass: :slap: :stick:
Thats just the way I am. :fact:
But,
Thats why WE are here isn't it?
