the footage is fuzzy, but from what i see it looks damn good. i care more about the interaction with the environment than graphics though, DX10 seems to have both. sweet.

I see nothing that can't be done with directX 9 :stick:
It looks cool though :toast:

What cards will support DX10?

A lot of those things can be done to some extent now, but the main difference (from what I can see) appears to be the level of approximation. For example things like soft shadows are calculated very poorly in current graphics.

GeForce 8? Radeon X2800?

Maybe true, but I'm betting that DX10 provides a much more efficient codepath for a lot of those operations, something like the difference between SM3.0 and SM2.0b in Far Cry -- the end result may look the same, but the GPU takes one or two passes to render what took five or ten passes before.

A lot of people are happy about the interaction whilest DX10 Does NOT have ANYTHING to do with that. Only to a VERY small extent and that is that it displays it. Thats it. all the rest even the destruction of entire buildings is all the physics engine, the leaves the same.
I must say the shadows look good and the fire ok. But those volumetric clouds are no better then the ones I got now in my fav combat flight sim : Pacific Fighters by 1C:Maddox Games
so if these are the major changes to DX10 from DX9C I'm telling you now we are in for a VERY VERY VERY meager new DX version.

We'll probably required to use Winborks Vi$ta to use DX10. Count me out, I'd rather use UNICS on an old PDP machine than use Winborks Vi$ta on an A64 system.

Dude it's a very low quality res video for less than 1 minute...........

Bit-Tech says x1800's and 7800's will support this. Does anyone know more about that claim?

Saw this video earlier today, looks promising.

That looks awesome, the interaction, the increased realism of the shadows, the clouds, i only hope it doesnt kill current hardware too much.

I cant view that footage, doesnt work. anyone got screenshots? dx10 isnt comming till r600, g80 and windows vista but I see no reason why winxp and 2k wont work with dx10 videos as long as nvidia and ati make drivers under win2k/xp. I dont know how big a difference there is but from dx8 to dx9 wasnt much of a difference. I guess I could get a dx9 card dirt cheap once dx10 comes out ;)

the fire looks horrable imo, but its hard to tell from that crippled video... :D
all the stuff in there looks nice but id even go further than saying all this is possible with dx9 hardware, id even say much more is possible with current dx9 hardware :)
plus most of this stuff has nothing to do with dx whatever, it only depends on the game engine, and thats what this demo was about, not dx9 or dx10 or 11 :D
and my comment about the game engine:
how long has far cry been out?
and in all that time this is all that has been added to the engine?
a little dissapointing imo...
sound has already reached a level of quality and performence that more advanced tech isnt really necessary anymore, most people dont even have a soundcard anymore as the onboard sound quality and performence is simply enough.
graphics will be next imo, the change from dx9 to dx10 will be the last big step i think. in a couple of years, maybe one decade (3-4 generations of vpus from now) graphics will reach the same spot sound already reached today, after that it will only be about physics and interactivity becomming more and more realisitic.

I wouldn't be so sure, from all the reviews i have read, it seems like X-Fi is setting a new milestone in PC sound from wich sound in games could greatly benefit if programers take advantage of it.

Yeah looks promising but any hint of DRM and I am pulling out right then.

looks very nice, but im kinda losing track here.
I thought EA bought "FarCry" just to prevent ubisoft/crytek to release a second supurb game. Because Crytek owns the name FarCry, EA can't do anything with it.
This is a weird story might be just a rumor or something. Please correct me with something more positive ;)

I think that one of the main Far Cry developers is now an EA man. Here's a link - http://www.megagames.com/news/html/pc/farcrydevelopersignswithea.shtml
