I am looking to purchase a new hardware firewall/router and I wanted to know what you guys would recommend? Yes I am paranoid. I want the best one money can buy and if it is possible to make the router/firewall unpingable then that'd be great. I don't want Sonicwall though. Any other recommendations?

Cisco Pix, Checkpoint are both well known, Novell Bordermanager actually is very very good if you have Novell skills...money is no object right?

Yes. I want ablility to possibly mask my firewall/router (if that's even possible), ease of port forwarding, etc. Can you include urls also? Thanks. :toast:

If you're familiar with linux you could also dedicate a computer as your hardware firewall. It's called clarkconnect, and I've heard pretty good things about it:

It's easier to harden BSD than Linux if you are going the firewall route. That's merely my opinion.

i have had great success + respect highly the "SG" line of routers/firewall from Cyberguard. see:
http://www.cyberguard.com/products/firewall/index.html?lang=de_EN
I currently have the SG580 and it does WAAY more than I could ever need it to... it can load-balance multiple WAN connections, is a full SPI firewall with SNORT and Antivirus built in, supports PPTP L2TP and IPSEC VPN, great easy to use GUI and also lets you telnet/SSH in if you want, great iptables support for doing QoS, etc, etc the list goes on practically forever
the SG560 which is almost as good can be had for well under $400 from some online shops.
my SG580 has been running for over 4 months now without a reboot!! and the last reboot was only because I upgraded the firmware. Rock solid.
