View Full Version : Best cooler for P4-M (without IHS)

I have a P4-M which was ripped from a laptop. It does not have an IHS, defaults to 1.5750v on my MSI 865PE Neo2-P.

Idle temps are high, 58C & load temps 67C. I've tried reseating my Cooler Master Aero 4 but there are no improvements in temps.

The AS5 on the core doesn't leave a proper "square stain" on the heatsink when I checked underneath. The mounting mechanism (clips) doesn't apply enough horizontal pressure/angle to make full contact.

ThrottleWatch reports active throttling during benches.

What is the most suitable cooler to use with exposed cores like P4-M? Please advise. Much thanks.

CNPS7700Cu makes up for a nice unproblematic fit and awsome cooling capabilities.

Be sure to check the "Dothan - Howto and Fixes" thread in the Dothan section for more details.

Either the Zalman 7000 or 7700 and if you want to go even quiter the Scythe Ninja

Reccomend the 7000 Al-CU for that cpu as its very sensitive to heat.

and yes, on silent mode = wont be able to hear it.

Could you post some pictures of your Scythe?

Then I'll add it to the Dothan thread :)

Go with one of the Zalmans. If you want maybe a little better performance you could go with one of the Thermalright heatpipe models, but you would have to lap the base and mod the mount to get spacing right and keep from chipping the core......so go with Zalman.
