OK guys hope someone can help with this issue. my computer out of the blue decided to start locking up while pretty much doing anything other than surfing the internet.

i play anything from americas army to hoyle casino. it does it after about 2 to 5 minutes of playing. If i try and convert a AVI file to DVD it does it after about 5 minutes.

All i hear is my sound make a weird noise(if im playing a game) and then it either locks up and screen goes black or it does a half reboot. the computer is still on but i have to hold power button in until it shuts all the way down and wait 30 sec before i turn it back on. its not overheating. i have that monitored.

Im running a AMD 2100 (1.7ghz) 512 meg ram. radeon 9600 GPU. nothing is overclocked.

normally i would think the cpu or ram but i can still rip and burn dvds.

any suggestions?????

Thanks
Jeremy

reapply the latest service pack to your box and then reapply all patches from M$

yes, you should also download a spyware agent and check the PC as well as remove any activex controls from the browser that may cause the problem. You can also reinstall objects like flash etc.. that might causing the problem...

Well if you are getting fluctuating power, that can do it...bad PSU...

a good test is make a small partition and install a new version of windows on it, patch it and see if it still happens. At least you will know if you are troubleshooting hardware or software...

yeah i though about psu. that or memory. i may try and put a new hard drive in it and go that route and see if it still does it

thanks
