sorry I know this is kinda in the wrong place but I'm frustrated with this folder I'm trying to setup! I cannot get windows to install for some reason. I have a 1GB HDD and when I run windows setup it says I need 7,340,032 bytes to install Win98SE, WTF?? I dont get it this drive had WIN95 on it and now after formating it won't take win98 and I know win98 can be installed on less then 1GB
Any ideas I really want this thing to start folding tonight
Once again I know this is in the wrong spot and I'm sorry but it would not get traffic in the OS forum.

Just a few things off the top of my head, have you fdisked and formated to ensure maximum available space? When installing, just choose the minimum install of just the basics. Make sure that in the bios it isn't set for plug and play os. Bare with me here, I'm just rattling off anything I can think of. Scandisked for any bad sectors. Have the hdd set for cable select on the jumper. (I don't really know if that would do anything or not other than prevent it from booting if set wrong). Sorry if I'm no help here, tough to diagnose from this end;) But w98se will install on that small of a hdd. I've got XF1 running on that small of a hdd w/ w98se.

Quick and dirty fix: install Win98Lite. If you need the file post your email. It's only 369K.

Tweaked big thank you for the reply!!
Ok so I fdisked and had only the primary partition taking the full 1024MB. I have set the bios to no for PnP OS and that did not do it. Now one thing I think might be a problem is everytime I enter fdisk it asks to enable large disk support and I kept choosing Y. I'm trying now to choose no then remove the partition and readd it all the while choosing no on that question. Think that may be it? This drive came out of an old packard hell I had laying around so I wonder if it supports FAT32 which I think is what its being formatted for cause I am not getting an option in fdisk.
This is a first for me everytime I have installed win98 it's been on a clean never used 20GB or larger drive so I'm confused all to heck right now.
Thanks again Tweaked

When answering no to large disk support, I think it will want to format it in 512mb partitions then. It's been a little too long since I've had to answer that one with a no.
Did you get the lite? Let me know if that works for you.

ddtung sent it but outlook deleted it because it was an executable. This is on my home machine and I don't want that feature on but cant figure out how to turn it off. I did delete the partition and re-add it answering no to that question and it let me create the full size partition but it still won't load windows.

if you are fdisking with a MS-DOS that was released with or after W95B it will format in either FAT16 (no large disk support) or FAT32 (large disk support)
@Crazymofo: don't know which Outlook you got
here's some info for

I normally wouldn't admit this but damn am I moron!! :( :D Fdisk doesn't format the drive Crazy, you still have to do that after creating the partition you idiot. What a brain fart. Win98 is now installing without issue and this folder will be online in less then an hour!! Man it's been to long since I had to install 98.
Thanks again guys, sorry for the stupidity!!
