Hello, I need some real help with my new Dual-Xeon motherboard. I can't seem to get WinXP loaded on to it, although I know it's possible. It locks up after the inital driver load (on the screen that sais press Enter to set up WinXP or press R to repair a previous install). Well, the keyboard stops responding before I can answer.
Anyway, I have a Promise SX4000 here with a Raid5 array of WD1200JB drives. Its a 66mhz 32bit PCI card. My board has 2 32b/33mhz PCI slots (normal ones), and three 64-bit PCI-X 66/100/133 slots (well, only one is a 133mhz slot but anyway). I thought I could put the 32bit pci card in the PCI-X slot so it would run at 66mhz. In fact, this seems to work just fine.
Apart from this WInXP setup locking problem. However, I just tried putting the SX4000 in one of the regular PCI slots, and it froze up at the same spot. So Im not convinved thats the problem. I have a lot of troubleshooting to do.
But I want to set my mind at ease. Can I run a 32bit/66mhz PCI card in a 64bit/66mhz PCI-X slot?? Or shouldnt I do this?
I cant find the answer anywhere.
