Hi all,

I recently setup a vapochill LS. It was up and running for a few days. Last night windows crashed on me. I was installing a 2nd HD and used an old ribbon cable by accident...

I had to power down the system. So I started the vapochill evaporator and it came on fine. Then it started the mobo but a few seconds after it powers the mobo off. It repeats this cycle endlessly. The lcd reads checking mb status.

I had this happen to me before. I ended up shorting jumpers 2-3-4 on the vapochill board as indicated in the manual and this fixed the issue. However this doesn't seem to be working this time.

To rule out a problem with my mobo and components I bypassed the vapochill and connected the the power switch directly into my motherboard. It booted and got past the bios screen. So the system looks fine.

One thing worth mentionning is that a red light comes on the vapochill control board. I don't remember seeing this before. It's right next to the blue light. When I first put power to the system the light is blue but when it tries to start the mobo this red light comes on.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm new to vapochill's and not sure what else to try?

First thing I'd do, in case having a bad cable has corrupted anything, is to reflash the firmware on the Vapo.

YOu can do that with any PC, just run the usb to it. If you can power up the PC it's on without a problem, you should be able to plug in and reflash when it's running.

Worst case is the point at which the Vapo reads is busted on the Mobo, but I can't remember what it uses.

Try a reflash first, and if that's not working, contact Asetek Technical and they'll be able to give you a few checks to do as well.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a 2nd computer handy but I could always find one if that's the only option I have.

I wonder what the red light indicates on the chill control board?

Been a while since I've used a Vapo, should be in the troubleshooter in the back of the manual.

If you can power up your PC as you stated, you should be able to reflash it that way. Just power up your PC, (I assume it's on air atm?) and switch on the Vapo, which shouldn't need to be chilling for the chillcontrol board to be reflashed.

Hope that helps.

It's not on air right now. When I powered it on the vapochill had chilled the cpu to -55C so I wasn't worried about turning it on for a few seconds.

I have the parts from my old computer I could put together to flash it. I'd have to re-install windows etc.. I guess I'll have to do this.

By the way when I say it powers off the mobo I mean it shuts off the powersupply. I guess that wasn't exactly clear.

I went home at lunch and tried a few things but nothing seems to be working. I tried to "fool" the vapo by powering the mobo manually using a jumper after having switched on the vapo unit. That didn't work either. I guess whatever switches on the powersupply is killing it after turning it on. It says checking mb status. I wonder how it performs this check. I'm guessing this is failing.

I would really like to know what that red light means but I can't find any documentation or information on the board except very generic user guides.

The troubleshooting guide points you to the forums... I posted on there but those forums look to be deserted.
