If it does not come with a fan installed, keeping it in a well ventiliated area is about all you can do. You could point a dedicated fan at it but i dont think its worth it considering that if it dies you can just RMA it.

If they didn't put a fan in it, it's their fault if it breaks.

I got a Di-604 that had freezing connection probleme cause of heat

It hapenned just after my warrenty was over.

What i did:
Cut a circle the size of the hole of a 80mm fan on the top
Used a drill to make 4 hole a little smaller than the screw,so that they grip
Screwed a 80mm fan on top of the router case
Soldered the fan wire on the routeur pcb near the power plug

Fan is running slower that it should, but it's enough to take the heat out.

Since then,no more freeze ;p

*hint:Go in the routeur, and deactivate the log,my router lost about 3 or 4 degree by doing that*

You can also put a heatsink on the hot chip, that may help.

we use a dedicated house fan for our router in the summer time, it over heats and just freezes, time to mod it i guess

Wow, I didn't know networking product's could overheat!! Maybe that why our old Netgear kept freezing, it was up in the office on the 2nd floor, that tends to get a bit warm.

Now our Belkin 802.11G Router & VoIP/Cable Modem box is in the cold basement, havn't had a problem with it, ever! :).

ive always just pointed a small room fan @ my routers and switches keeps the heat down and gives me peace of mind.

the argument that the manufacturer will replace it if it goes bad isnt that great since you still have to go through the hassle of having it replaced and the downtime associated with it.

Wouln't worry, both of my SMC Barricades get hot. Just the nature of broadband routers to be a bit toasty... if you want a router with fans.... build one out of little pent100 computer... :D.
