after overclocking my Leadtek PX6800 GT TDH "one slot fan" model to 420/1150 using the stock fan + 2x120mm case fans surrounding it that seems to help only a few C degrees it usually gets as hot as ~85C load. I never get any artifacts at all, haven't tried going further either as this is really the most I'd o/c I'd use 24/7 with stock fan.
Is 85C load too much tho or is it only when artifacts starts showing I should worry or back a few MHz?
Opinions?

If it's crashing or artifacting then you need to stop. As long as those are fine, keep going.

I would never exceed 70C, but I'm picky, and I care about my hardware ;)

Spend a few bucks and pick up a VF700Cu. What are the load temps of the card at stock settings?

About 60C idle and 75C load

Well, Did you redo the thermal paste on the core/mem? If so, Did you first check to make sure that it was making proper contact?
I made that mistake with my LE (At GT Overclocked core speeds with 1.4v) by doing the standard application. You need to lop it on since there is a big gap between the chips and HSF.
I changed it off and booted up with 70c idle, Turned it off, Redid the paste, dropped down to 43c idle at 412Mhz core.

Redo, no I haven't, using stock fan that I haven't touched at all and don't plan to either. Seeing many others run their gfx cards at 85C load, I will prolly just keep doing that as well.
I may add that I've had this gfx as hot as 98C and that was b4 adding some case fans to the bottom of the case. Still had no signs at all for artifacts or unstability. Could be the nvidia control panel that is displaying wrong too.

I put an 80mm on the edge of it now and it seems to have helped a lot... it goes now up to about 72 - 74C load.
The comp starts to have quite a lot noise tho, the 80mm fan is rated 27dB compared to the others which are around 20dB and then I now have in total 9 comp case fans.(5x120mm, 2x92mm & 2x80mm) lol
Couldn't have imagined the performance would increase this much by o/c it from 350/1000 to 420/1150 :)
