Well so far after having a HUGHE problems with BSOD Iam in the process of changing out parts to find out whats the problem and having issues

so far replaced mobo(msi k8n) + cpu(3500+) + hard drive (raptor)

but now for some reason I have in Bios 11X multi and 1.55v but when I get to the desktop my multi is 5X and voltage is 1.1v

Iam thinking of selling ALL my stuff except the hard drives and start over.

Iam very pissed at this point

It seems you have Cool 'n' Quiet enabled?

It seems you have Cool 'n' Quiet enabled?

nope its disabled and in clockgen shows 11X and 1.55v starting values

Indeed, it has to be Cool 'n' Quiet in action.

Cool n quiet or a bad bios is what it sounds like.

put my 4400+ back in and problem went away

how can I do a memory controller test to make sure its operating at 100%???

if it is then the DFI went bad and I know what to replace or get RMAed

my friends comp has a similiar problem it will sometimes have a 5x multi but i didnt check the voltage. we were like wtf why is your comp so slow lol it was at 1000 mhz rofl and multi was set to 9 in bios. were still trying to figure out why that sometimes happens

I replaced the 3500 with the 4400+ and this POS MSI K8N won't go over 240 FSB or maybe the CPU won't let it boot since startup voltage is only 1.4v

either way its running at 2.6gig for now and I ordered a new Ultra-D and two sticks of Ballistix

so I should be rocking in two days

thanks for the help

What OS are you using and do you have APIC enabled? Curious because I've noticed wierd things at times during intial startup sequencing of W2K (tho nothing like what you've seen). Bigtoe also had some strange problems late winter time frame he was grumbling about...

Peace :toast:

using XP sp2

stupid thing just BSOD on me again keep getting the same one too.

I think part of the problem is this MSI mobo can't hold a steady voltage.

voltage I had set at 1.538v and it was bouncing from 1.488v - 1.538v just wondering if thats causing this BSOD to show its ugly head :(

either way new DFI on its way from newegg and ballistix this will eliminate everything but the CPU and if thats the problem its an easy fix too
