Some really good B0 chips lately...

If you're fishing for a C1 chip, and get a B0 chip, don't automatically dismiss it...give it a shot.

The last four 1.8 B0 chips I've tried would hit 3GHz on the stock Intel heatsink...others have had good luck too.

This last chip I received is REALLY nice.
It's a 2.0A, packdate 11/27/02, SL68R, MALAY.
I was going to just skip it because it was B0...but I'll be damned if this sucker isn't running 20x154 3080MHz right now.

At DEFAULT voltage...1.45v actual. With the stock Intel heatsink.

It's in an 8IHXP with 1GB PC1066 154x4 right now...it'll actually hit Windows at 156x4 (board's limit) with default voltage, but the RAM craps out at 154x4 (which is actually quite impressive for four 256MB Samsung PC1066 sticks).

I'll be chunking this in a less limiting board and a Vapo very soon...it's a helluva chip. $165 for a 1GHz+ overclock at default voltage stock cooling is impressive.

So try 'em...I've had a 2.5, 2.66, and several 2.4B C1 chips that would NOT hit 3GHz, no matter how much voltage I fed 'em. C1's are just as hit-and-miss as B0's, apparently...and it appears that the B0 process is having some very good yields as of late.

$165 seems a bit high for a 2.0a. I thought most places had them for under $150.

BTW, nice chip.

I'm almost ready to go back to Intel but need to ensure I can find a P4/mobo combo that will improve on this 2400+ first.

B0 are more of a reliable overclocking cpu as the C1's don't really pull their weight when overclocking and apart from the couple of 1.6A's we're seeing around the C1's arent really an overclockers cpu, just look at the 2.8's, there less than perfect when it comes to only getting 3.2/3.3 out of them

I gave up on the 2.0's , 1.8's iv'e been getting are make 3ghz no problem also. Stock volts BO steppings.

So I think the rule of thumb is to find the CPU with the latest week/packdate, C1 or B0 doesn't matter, right ?

I'm getting a new CPU ^_^

There is no rule...it's a crapshoot in general. But yes, I'd say a newer chip would give you a better chance, but not always (I have old chips that have smoked newer ones).

I've been getting those good 1.8's too, Ted. They've been hitting 3GHz with around 1.7v.
Hehe, I know your struggles (and mine) with 2.0's...that's why my jaw dropped when I passed 3GHz on default voltage.

Wish they were all this way... :p
