That's intel for you, everytime they release a new chip, they make you buy a new mobo too...
Haven't they ever heard of upgradability?

Well it means there technology is advancing step by step and not just bumping up the last like they used to.

No, it means they're keeping each chipset from being compatible with the next chip, which in-turn forces you to have to buy a new mobo AND processor... This is one of the KEY reasons I went with AMD. I can use the same mobo for a few years and just upgrade the processor, all it requires is a bios change.

makes you wonder if the presslers, and indeed te conroes that will use 975 chipset will have dual independant front side bus much like the xeon versions of the cores, otherwise why would a 1066bus not be compatable with the current dual core and 1066 bus enabled 955 chipset, unless the 800 bus for dual cores was a chipset limitation and not because of the lowest multiplier of 14 on smithfield and indeed prescott cores. either way I'm hoping its dual independent 1066 bus', otherwise the bus is going to remain a major bottleneck, especially when you combine it with dual channel ddr 1066 when this comes out.

Unlocked multi?! Looks like Intel are finally endorsing overclocking.

haven't the EE's always had an unlocked multi?
Anyway looks nice, and unlike the single core EE, the dual core might actually be able to USE all that bandwidth of a 1066fsb bus.

I want one. I was just running calcs on transaction per minute for SQL and if that sucker scales as well as other Intel procs on this type of application, this thing might even catch and beat a single dual core Opty
