Last week I modded a Vapochill LS for a friend. I changed the compressor with a NL11F (more silent and stronger), and added a desuperheater. The old compressor was very loud, and the unit wasn't working properly.
Here are some pics:

The stock unit

Stock it only held about -23° with 120w heatload

Changing out the compressor...

I lost no pressure after 24 hours so i pulled a vacuum

After 2,5bar static charge, still a bit underfilled

The NL11F is a lot quieter than the FR8,5CL, also it does better temps now :)

Peter

Considering that bottle looks like it's upside down, that's a pretty safe bet.

Nice mod, the evap head on an LS seems to be quite good, just the compressor lets it down a bit. Seems the ideal mod :toast:

These are not all units I have in the garage... Many Mach2Gt to chilly1 evap, some Vapochill LS and so on...

Yes I used R404a, will get a bottle of R402a in the next future.

greetz,
Lol the Mach2Gts are all ready ecept one, so I think one thread for all is enough :D
But I have some other units build. Next week I go shopping for a unit for myself :P

Great job man, I hope in the future you will add some G-Froster addon for you own builded units. :D

is r402 expensive in Austria?

Yes for sure. I'll order some in the near future if all goes well.

@Jack: About 20€-25€ for 1kg. So not very cheap.

Was about £120incl VAT for 13kg of 402a for me, but I couldn't get any more discount without an account there, so not too bad I guess but still not cheap. The UK is pretty expensive too.

I couldn't find any smaller amount than 13kg bottles for sale either. Should last a while...

13kg is more than enough for a longer time. These small units only need about 50-100 gramms or even less.

This looks like a gain of 22 degress aprofimately after 20+ min of loadtime with 120 Watt yes?

But what about 200 Watt?

Im pulling around 205 Watt from my cpu and I would want to change my kompressor to somthing more powerfull.

But isent the NL11F just a mach 2 compressor???
And If so why make a swap? Why not just buy a mach 2 and regass it???
It would be alot cheaper....

Have any sugestions for a biger one I could use?

These systems do about -35° with 200w load.
The NL11F is also used in Mach units. A Vapochill has a better evap and mounting, and a better case. But the compressor is louder and not as powerfull as the NL11F. The Mach has a bad evap with awfull mounting. So you must decide what you want.
A bigger compressor won't fit into the case. For a example a SC12CL is too high.

Well, compared to Denmark that is REALLY cheap. All I can say is that 1 kg of R404a probably costs about 80 € + -!!!!!! I was told this by one of the modders in Denmark - haven't talked to an HVAC though.
Is it legal to ship refrigerants from the UK to Denmark?? Man that would be a big thumbs up if it is!!!!

I can assure you that NF9FX (one used in US) can get 160W load evap temp close to -40c with some good tuning and r404a or r402a. 200 Watt sounds bit extravagent. Does intel really use that much power? That 160W is AMD X2 running 1.7v (default around 1.33v) heavily overclocked. About twice heat output of stock voltage. I've been searching high and low for compressor that can beat NF9FX with similar quietness, similar power draw, and cooling ability with capacity but I am still searching and waiting for candidates show up. Considering NL11F is probably same thing, I wouldn't question much about the capability of compressor :) Maybe not -40c but -30c should be within reach for real 200W heatload subjected.

Nice job there cold_ice. I'd also like to see what it can do with 200w heatload.

Look what I've written above, about -35° with 200w.
@SustaiN: I can send you refrigerant from Austria. Send me a PM if you're intersted.

Cold Ice what you charging yor units with? and what is the static pressure after several hours rest at room temp and what pressure in HG when running the unit with zero load?

I use R507 or R404a. The static charge is about 2.5bar, but I charge every unit until I get the best temperatures at load.
