Okay I read in the archive that you can flash an X800 to an X800XL (with or without unlocking the 4 pipes), what I want to know is it okay to use an ATI (OEM I pressume) BIOS to flash it to the X800XL.

My Card is a Xpertvision (known as Palit) X800, 256bit 256MB, Core: 390 oc to 400, Mem: 450 oc to 500.

Thanks.

Sean.

I dont think this would work, diferent cores.

yeah, the x800XL is totally diffrent to all the other x800's in that its made using the 110nm process do you mean to flash to the x800XT?
most x800 pro's will flash, with a hard mod too, to XT's

No the X800 and X800XL do have the same core. R430 that is.

This is why my X800 is flashable: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20657

Although I am yet to find an Xpertvison (or Palit) X800XL bios (because they do not make X800XL's). I am now going to try and flash it to an X800pro BIOS to help my overclock.

But again I cant find the X800Pro BIOS for an Xpertvision (or Palit). If anyone has a PCIe Xpertvision (or Palit) X800Pro could they please save the BIOS and PM Me. Cheers.

ok thats the inquirer, also it says some Sapphire cards use the same PCB not all x800's are on the
110nm and then if your card is an rR430 then i doubt it will work with a PRO BIOS. also ATI have started
laser cutting the pipes that are disabled. the vanilla x800's are cheap for a reason you know ;)

are the laser cuts internal or external? when i took my heatsink off to apply AS5 on my X800 i didn't see any cuts.

and how can you check what nm your card is?

i dont know about the cuts, but take your H/S off ans look at the core if its an R430 then its 110nm if its an R480/R420 then its 130nm.

Yes mine too is a R430 and I also did not notice any laser cuts on the PCB.

Well my Xpertvision X800 BIOS ROM was locked, based on some 'rumours' that I found on the web I downloaded Gigabyte Video Flash (like atiflash but specifically for Gigabyte). And what do you know? Success, it actually wrote to the BIOS ROM. That was with Gigabytes version of the X800 (non-pro, vanilla) BIOS.

However I tried to flash it to the X800XL BIOS but it would not let me. And "GVF" does not have force flash options (for obvious reasons).

So I rebooted as normal, what do you know? It DOES NOT boot  So know I have a PCI (S3 Virge) card in. And I CANT flash back to my original BIOS using atiflash or GVF  :stick:

I have emailed Palit Microsystems and asked them for help, I also asked if they do infact use Gigabyte BIOSes on their videocards, and if they actually do make their own BIOSes. Do you think I'll get a reply? :stick:
All I think I'm going to get is :slapass: :nono:

 :(

what'd you do to fix it 5days?

i was aware of the X800pro lock and looked for that on my X800, but didn't see it. i think the Gigabyte X800 256mb is an X800XL but Gigabyte made it just an X800 vanilla for whatever reason.

No, stock for now. Too busy to tinker with it anymore.

To overcome the lock all I di was type: "flashrom -p -sst 0 newbios.bin -f" :stick:

ok, I just flashed my X800 -> X800XL. successfull...to an extent. when i boot up, it gets to the Welcome screen and sometimes a little past and then the system reboots. so.....i flashed back :D everything's fine now.

an interesting note is that I put in a PCI card while still having the X800 with an X800XL BIOS. despite tools and Windows saying that an X800 XL was plugged in, RivaTuner reported 12 pipes and did not show any vp's.

here's a note to anybody wishing to try this mod. i am convinced that flashing your X800 256mb with an r430 core will not hurt your card in any way and if unsuccessful, a simple flash back will fix everything. so therefore, I encourage people with vanilla X800 256mb graphics cards that have the r430 core to try this flash and see if it works for them. regardless of what i'm convinced of, do not hold me responsible if something does happen to go wrong and you screw up your card. just remember that IF you put in a PCI card to flash back, make sure you take the PCI card out BEFORE booting up with the monitor plugged into the X800. your monitor will not turn on otherwise.
