a while back i wanted to turn my 9800pro into an xt like everyone else.
wen i checked my core in ati tool it told me i had the 350 core so i gave up. then this morning i took off the hs and to my suprise there is r360 printed on my card. so now im wondering, if this is a misprint or if ati tool can be wrong. mabe some luck to those who think they are stuck with a 350 core.

your card might have been an XT to start off with but failed to make it, it was then reflashed from XT bios to pro bios. If you are lucky, flash it with XT bios it might turn it into XT

Ati tool just shows the information that is in video card bios. Whether or not it is XT you can only check by removing the cooler. You can flash XT bios if the chip is R360

Not necessarily. Over time it was probably cheaper for ATi to ship it's partners one chip (R360) instead of two (R360 & R350).

Please explain further. What brand 9800 Pro did you have that goofed? Did you "fry" the card with overclocks, voltage, both, or other? Reason I ask is because for a while MSI was shipping 9800 Pros on a green PCB with the R360 core. However from what I read on a site, can't remember it off the top of my head, but it said those weren't able to flash correctly.

no, i had an ati 9800pro, i didnt get to flashing it yet, i had a vga cooler on it that ws working fine, i set ati tool to set for max core so i could see if it would get to xt speeds. atitool froze computer rebooted and the card will now artifact if i try and use any 3d app. im going to send it to a friend and see if they can fix it. wish me luck

ive got the card in question.

personally havent tried flashing (no need) as it is already a 9800xt minus clocks (stock 9800pro clocks of 378/338 ) and without overdrive or temp monitoring. for all other purposes, it is an xt.

but it is stuffing up on me now, i think it may be bad capacitators or something (read post in this forum about maintaining overclock)
