"We've met with several industry insiders who claim that the R520 is nothing more than a 16 pixel pipeline GPU that'll be clocked at 700MHz and that NVIDIA has a 32-pipe solution it's waiting to pull the trigger on the day after ATI's announcement. Either way, we sure hope neither company gets caught up into a paper-launch."
Is this the last nail in the casket? or is it just a bluff to make ATI release the R520 sooner?

This isn't news, it's a rumor :stick:

Well rumors turn into news :stick: You can't deny the fact that the 7800U will be released this year.

90% of the HW news are rumours....

Surely ATI can't compete with 16pipes. Plenty of people run X800's and XTPE's at near 700mhz core, i ran mine at 675 on water and it's no where near a GTX.

I love the speculation about performance before release...until you see it and use it and try it...you know nothin...

Perkam has already said that only official announcements and such should be posted. Rumors and speculation are to be discussed on other boards.

I can deny it since Nvidia already released that it is scrapping the 32 pipe card, to work on the G80.

Scrapping the R520? Yeah that sounds even more believable... :hitself:

that doesn't make sense. Why on earth would ATI scrap a card they spent tons of money on and then lose any chance to capitalize on that investment? It's plain stupid.. Haven't they heard something called "Better late than never"?

Not to mention the fact that ATI has promised its share holders the R520.

You lie to investors, you get sued, and in alot of cases major jail time... The SEC doesn't play around, you can't give false info, wether it be good OR bad, at an investors meeting, so don't even start it.

And then you are both stepping on fan's toes. NO talk except facts? should we just stop using ATI altogether too?

Speculation leads to argument, denial, and sometimes a new product hitting the market, because something isn't out there that is needed...and most of these issues only come up hearing people talk about new products, and what they might possibly do. As a tool to meet market demand, this is ever useful, and to deny it is to possibly deny a million-dollar opportunity. You'd be surprised at the number of market reps trolling forums looking for just this sort of thing.

ATI has to release something new for high end regardless, they can't afford to miss a whole product cycle, not to mention the rest of their line up is still being held up for the r520 release.

There can be disgussion, just not on THIS board. This is a news board, and when you want to discuss graphics cards beyond that you go to the 3D Team board. I'm simply repeating what Perkam said.

And I really don't understand how you associate limiting speculative conversation to... excluding ATI altogether? Nobody said anything about excluding any hardware company (or software for that matter).

I love how stupid these ATI vs nVidia discussions get.

But, does anyone stop to think that it takes years to design such a chip, and further months of getting first prototype, testing, writing fresh driver code for new features, more testing, getting final spin, sending out to developers and reviewers, and getting enough quantity to ship chips to manufacturing partners. Do you think all those thousands of people are working in the dark? Insiders know most of the features and general clock speeds (targets) months and even years aheaad. Ofcourse they can't share, because of NDA, and PR folk are there on forumns to make sure there is enough mis-information circulating around that even if somebody gave away the exact detail, they'd be lost amongst the noise. Also, even if you knew all the exact details months or years ahead.. so what? Its not like you can go out to BestBuy and get it. It doesnt help at all, just makes you more anxious.

The Xtreme News section is fair ground for posting industry rumours, leaked info and the like. It just cannot be posted to the frontpage unless the source is credible and verifiable - meaning it has to be official/close to official.

Sry, missed the bit that this was in the news forum.

But this whole thing was speculation on the writer's part anyway. My point in excluding ATI, and it's stupidness, would be akin to stopping discussion of the industries rumours. This news post, is, after all, just a rumour.
