Cool, I use a self modified server power supply from an 8way PPC for benching. Extremely reliable power, about 75A on the 12v rail.

I can see something like this working just fine in my multi core multi chip systems... 4 875's draw a lot of juice and this thing should be able to deliver it and still run a pack of hard drives and what not...I'm interested OCZ if you can sell it at a reasonable price point...

Wow, that just looks like 2 PSU's put in one case.

That's what it is basically

One is sufficient...

a 15 amp wall outlet at a nominal 110V =1650W .....give or take depending on wire gauge heat actual voltage at outlet etc...

I had an HF linear amplifier that peaked at 15amp 220v or 30amp 110v that put out 3kw on 10 meters. I sure hope PC's don't get up to that level of power consumption...
The lights in the house would flicker when i modulated on the driver (transciever) which was using another 1.5 amps of 110v. That's kinda like running an arc welder all the time.

no offense, but the lights flickering mean something was wrong somewhere between where you were drawingthe power and where it punched into the transformer...that much wattage while very significant shouldn't really make a blip in the voltage if everything is wired correctly. After all, that only represents a fraction of a 200 amp or even a 100 amp service...usually the problem is that they use 12 gauge wire for 220@15 amps... I find in real world use it's a pain in the butt and you should use 10 gauge...you get less heating in the wiring and less sudden voltage swings...anyhow blah blah blah

PC's are nearing the top end of the power consumption curve according to recent gartner group studies...I support this thought as all the major chip manufacturers are looking towards lower volts and less heat...

I think it was 60amp service which would probably be a problem with an electric water heater. Anyways let's hope we got some more efficient chips soon to avoid requiring 1kw+ PSU's.

dont see computers will use 1000w ever..... we are getting more efficient even intel is thinking in that....

Check out the IDC article at THG....it talks about the trend toward lower voltages by big bad Intel.....Nvidia has already stated that's where they are heading too.... can AMD and ATI be far behind is stating that is where their future lies?

Are higher wattage PSUs going to be more necessary or something, I'm confuzzled.

less voltage less watts you will need the power consuption will be less per cpu gpu etc so a 1100w is useless IMO

Got it....for some reason I though UnG was saying that we'll need these for lower voltage CPUs.

Not at all, I was agreeing with you that computers have already neared their high end wattage requirements....

interesting.. but really almost 0 demand for it... not even the daul 7800gtx's with 840EE at 5ghz would need that.. not even close.

And here I was hoping they'd build it for some of my bigger servers and there you go shutting me down.... :stick:
lol

lol ung... well they do have hte crazy powerful server PSU's like you mentioned earlier.. so whats the big deal.. and if you REALLY want a psu that powerful, get two 600watt OCZ's and wire them in parallel.. that is ALL they did..

well I just thought it might be price competitive, some of those suckers cost me well over 12 or 13 hundred bucks and more in some cases. I could wire a couple up but then it wouldn't be a nice clean fit in the case with the professional looking fit and finish... and then there's the simple fact that I'm too lazy and fat....and I kinda like OCZ customer support...and did I mention I'm fat and lazy?
