here is a great test started by an Intel user Technonut...(great guy)...We need some P-D users to have some good comparisons to the AMD X2 like mine and the extremely oc'd P4 640 like techno's....

I know I can count on Intel users who know what the heck they are doing over here....

Follow instructions but try to use the Widescreen version of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King to get some good comparisons...the OP started with the Fellowship of the Ring but evidently not too many had that....

You can post here or there, but actually just make sure you at least post here....

This is at stock 2.2ghz 11x200, but using the now stock 250 divider and cas 2.5-4-4-10 at 500ddr .....

at 1.32v actual and load temp of 41c with 2 instances of prime95...didn't even hit 40c with the Divx encoding...

This was done at 2.664ghz...I tried with 200 divider and tighter timings but it appears it like the bandwidth more then timings...So I ran 233 divider but with cas 3-5-5-10...I tested already before and I dont think I could get my ram to be stable at 3-4-4-8 at this speed. I think it got EEU's in F@h but did not when I tested it at 3-5-5-10...I only have 2.85v to give...

Love to join in, but 2 problems. I don't have that movie. However I guess I could rent it for a few days. But 2nd pbm, I was trying some volt mods and I think I broke my mobo. I have a new one coming early next week. I'm still trying to get my rig sorted out, but I'm not really encouraged at this point. I'm pretty sure I broke it.

Ahhh that sucks...I saw your points in Folding go down...Hope it works out for you...Let me know when you can do it and you can pick a different movie and we can compare...I have about a 120 movies....

OK I can understand Big Stan, but what about the rest of you???

Do you do anything other then run superpi 1mb times on your dothans and 3dmark scores????

Dothans can run this test as well...

Interesting test. I wonder how a highly overclocked 6xx rig like LarsK's would do? His is overclocked to 5ghz, and it would probably nearly equal a 4400+ X2 stock.

Those X2s are untouchable when overclocked though. I'm interested in seeing how an overclocked P-D rig does in this aswell, so here's a bump :D

If you saw the test at AT I link you will see a 640 oc'd to 4.4ghz lost by 29% to my best now....I beat the 4.4ghz time even when I drop the cpu to 10x200 to run it as a 4000+ if there was one...I dont necessarily know the effects of cache exactly but I think in encoding and the nature of it it is pretty much nil....

I would venture a guess that 5ghz being 13.6% faster then 4.4ghz and assume linear (which I probably CANNOT ***see below***) it would score a 1hour 14.8min or somewhere between my 2.574ghz and 2.2ghz...If it was perfectly linear it would be more like a 4800+ or 4600+ X2....

However if you look at my test 2.0ghz (10x200) versus 2.2ghz (11x200) did not scale perfectly linear so perhaps the P4 w/ HT will not also and therefore a 4200+ X2 may be more correct then I assume..I would still venture a guess in the 2.3ghz X2 range or like a 4500+ range (if they had one)...

This leads to some reasons I am continuing the test...

1) The X2 does not scale linear
2) The X2 does not use 100% cpu usage...2nd core is not being fully used...During encoding first and second pass I usually only get a 72-84% usage....We are wondering if this is IO limitations or something else...I mean 170fps is fast and perhaps to fast to keep reading and writing....Going to try on a raid 5 setup with a PCI-x and opterons...

ALL ASSUMPTIONS WITHOUT SOME MORE P4 - P-D TESTING....

Usually games :D . It is basically a gamming processor , don`t expect much from Dothans in this test even at 2700+ . Looks like those X2 are untouchable in this kind of task ...... ;) .

Usually games :D . It is basically a gamming processor , don`t expect much from Dothans in this test even at 2700+ . Looks like those X2 are untouchable in this kind of task ...... ;) .

I dont but I would happy to have any other scores...I have one guy did a P-M on AT forum so I know what it will do roughly stock but you guys OC the piss out of them...want to see how extreme speed overcomes their FPU weakness...

Really no one must be buying these P-D chips or at least not many enthusiast....Cause I haven't got one P-D user from 3 forums now to run it, even if they are oc'd to 3.9-4.2ghz....I would expect it could do well at those speeds....

I'll try to do the test with one of my dothans when I find time... but I only own the extended ultimate... "haha we made you buy the same movie twice you *&^%ing moron" edition. And If I recall work like this is something dothans absolutely blow at... so don't expect much.

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE RETURN OF THE kING??? (not yelling)

I know the OP in the original AT thread used LOTR =- The fellowship but many did not have that so we migrated over the the Retun of the King which is mainly about half way in to the end of the AT thread....

I didn't know the had an ulitmate extended version...What did they add??? I have the WS 2 disc version...

I guess no one has bought these chips....since I cant get one person to run the test yet....

This is up on 3 large sites and not one P-D user has posted a score.....Either the rumors of poor sales are right or users have run the test and dont like the scores compared to the X2s that have ran it....

I have had 2 threads in this forum asking for ppl with P-D's to run benches (other different then this one) and I get little to no response....Why is this???

Duvie,
I will run the test as soon as I complete my current build. But I do have a question thought. What do you use to rip the DVD so that the conversion can be done.

Use DVD-decryptor....It is not part of the time so just create a su folder and make sure you follow instruction and rip the "stream" portion of the file....New version of AutoGK can work with the ifo file but this version will not..
