Well, My rig is as per my signature. Nothing really special. The furthest I can push my MoBo is 247 MHz on the FSB, pushing my P4 3.2 GHz to 3952 MHz. Even at a Vcore of 1.48V, it isnt dual prime stable :(. However, It was folding for 6 months 24/7 without any problems at 3920 MHz.
Whilst building my rig (11 months ago), clocking the nuts of it wasn't my main priority. I was on a limited budget (Im 17, and in my last year of school) and simply wanted something that would play games decently at 1280x1024 with 2xaa and 2xaf, and being an Intel fanboy, got a P4 :D. The thing thats really holding me back is my MoBo :(. This stupid BS 915 chipset!! :(. The reason I got it was I didnt want AGP, as I wanted a definite upgrade path as I made a mistake on a previous rig, by getting a MoBo that only supported PCI graphics when AGP was just released.
I can get suicide shots at 250 FSB, but it always crashes withing an hour, and wont even POST unless I clear the CMOS. Fully loaded temps are anywhere between 57-65 depending on the room temperature. And those temps suck :(. And it isnt even at 4 GHz and needs such a high VCore, and isnt even prime stable. I think thats the fault of my MoBo, and I feel that my CPU could probably soar higher. I get a superpi 1M time of under 34 seconds (about 33.7).
Now here's my question: What should I change? Should I go and get something like an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium (The Asus P5WD2 and Abit AA8XE Fatal1ty are out of my budget) and DDR2 ram, or should I get some DDR ram like BH-5 2-2-2-5 and use it in this rig? I really want a sub-30 second superpi. :(
Another thing: What would be faster? DDR500 at 2.5-4-4-8 or DDR2 667 at 4-4-4-12? Is the ASUS P5AD2-E Premium a good motherboard? If so, is about 4.3 GHz on Air possible if the chip is good (watercooling will follow shortly anyway)? I happen to have 3 Asus P5P800 MoBos lying on my floor (dont ask why I have 3 :p: ), so I'll have a go on that with my P4 and see how far it'll go.
Anyway, sorry about the boring long post, but I'd greatly appreciate your views and recommendations :)
Thanks a lot for your time :)
