"All content Copyright © 1999-2005 by Black Viper"
Vs.
"© 1996-2005 by Maddox"
And Maddox is funnier, which is all that really matters.

Blackviper is a complete fvcking moron. It is evident from everything on his site he lacks of knowledge when it comes to Windows. I really pity people who follow his poor advice.

Hmm, after reading your articles about classifying nerds. I guess you fit
into one of those categories. Hmm, shall I say the lonely, bitter one
that sits at home all day and sulks about how much his life sucks?
Oh, and pretty sad that you go and diss little kids pictures. I guess
your parents didn't beat you enough when you were a kid cause you sure
didn't turn out fine.
I decided to do something different with this hate mail, something that would give all the people I've offended some insight into why I'm such a :banana::banana::banana: sometimes, so I replied with this:

I was abused as a child and the way I cope is by expressing myself
through my writing. Please be more understanding :(

I'm sorry to hear about that maddox. I agree that writing helps express
anger, but I don't think you should go and take it out on other people, more
over encourage other people to abuse their kids. Your writing is funny and
all, but I didn't expect that the issues you write about is personal. Sorry
to hear about it. Anyways, this is just personal opinion. Take care.

Yay BlackVper is back. I don't know why people say he doesn't know anything, his service guides have been very helpful to me
His site is filled with false information and stupid advice. Here is one example:
Everyone on XP Home, by default, has Administrator privileges and the User name is "Owner." If I know that, so does everyone else on the planet. Change the name and / or password your account. If anything, password it. NEVER have an account unprotected! EVER!
Following this advice may actually lower security if the user uses a really bad password. This is because by default an account without a password is not allowed to connect over the network, only to the console. So an account with no password is very secure if you are like most people who are not worried about physical access.
Also his pagefile advice is just terrible. He even recommends disabling the pagefile. Do I even need to explain why this is a terrible idea? You also should never set the pagefile a fixed size, unless it is in a partition of its own, but even that is a bad idea.
Even some of the services that he recommends disabling in the "safe" configuration column is stupid. Performance Logs and Alerts is a good example. It eats no resources unless called upon by a user or a program and it is one of the best troubleshooting tools in Windows.
Blackvipers advice is just bad. If you really want to 'tweak' your OS, I think you should actually know what you are doing and know how everything works. Blackvipers advice has caused a lot of people to screw up their computers thinking there would be a performance advantage from what they are doing. However when it comes to real-world performance there is no gain with computers today. His site just tricks users who don't know any better that they actually learned sometthing. I know Blackviper is trying to help with his site, but he is not and most of his stuff should be ignored.
Just look at his definition of Virtual Memory:
Virtual Memory ~ The name used for the sum of Physical RAM and the Swap File. In other words: Physical RAM + Swap File = Virtual Memory. You cannot "disable" Virtual Memory even if you disable the Swap File. Meaning, 2 GB RAM + 0 MB Swap File = 2 GB Virtual Memory.
Now, obviously this is just completely wrong. However people that do not know any better will believe that it is true. Some will even argue about it. This is why I hate people like Blackviper sho spread this sort of garbage. When he says stuff like this he should be ignored. However the average person will not know what to beleive and what to ignore.
I know you cannot blame Blackviper for somebody who just is ignorant and disables services without paying attention to what they are disabling. However you can blame him for screwing up peoples computers when that user carefully reads his poor documentation and believes everything he says because they don't know any better.
The internet is filled with "tweakers" who do nothing, but give terrible advice and misinform tons of people. It is sad and blackviper is one of these people. I have fixed quite a few PC's that follow peoples poor tweaking advice and blackviper is a very popular one.
Please do not tweak anything unless you fully understand what is going on. However, once you understand you wouldn't waste your time since you know typically you aren't even going to gain a sizeable amount of anything and the problems it could cause. Every single person who writes those stupid tweaking guides are the people who do not fully understand what is going on.

Well thanks for the long and informative reply :) Any idea where I should go to find advice about what services can safely be disabled?

I generally do not recommend disabling any of the default Windows services. In real-world performance there really is not any gain. If you are in a situation where it is necessary to disable services for an increase in performance it would be wiser to get more RAM.
I have heard from some people that disabling services helps with some benchmarks. I have not ever seen better scores from disabling services, but I am not a big benchmarker.
If for some reason you still want to disable services just do your research. If you just use blackvipers site to read some of the descriptions for services that is fine. Just most of his advice is bad. There is this guide which looks good. I have not gone through it though.
http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm
Here is another one that explains all the services.

If you want to know more information you can register at that forum. It is not all about overclocking like this forum, but it has some of the most knowledgable members out of any forum I have ever been to. Take DriverGuru for example who knows a lot about Windows VM.
Just when disabling services make a backup and know what you are disabling,
