GO INTEL!!!!!! (http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20050823_133123.html)

you mean stages, not pipelines. Basically, Intel is catching up to what AMD has been doing since 2002.

Edit: ahh, I see. You quoted Tom's Hardware. That was your second mistake.

Intel has the menpower and knowledge to completely crush AMD in therms of performance, the only reason they didn't do this yet is because the past few years they have only sold cpu's that SOUND faster instead of PERFORMING better as a marketing strategy.

its about time intel has jumped on board. say good by to netburst and hello to performance
go intel.

Really, no matter who becomes the better performer, as long as competition tightens up, we, the consumers, win.

Edit: That's a lot of commas for one sentence, but I think it is right. Man, I must love commas or something.

Marketing had a lot to do with the strategy, but these were the guys who promised 10GHz on Netburst. Their engineering department was as far out of touch with reality as the marketing guys.

Now they do have the money and the brains to beat out AMD, no doubt. Intel didn't get where it is by putting out bad chips. I only hope they'll beat AMD in performance and manufacturing, not -- as they've been doing for years -- by using their market dominance to coerce anybody who even thinks about buying from someone else.

I hope Merom use true 64-bit technology and doesn't lose performance.

This could be something. Intel has the money to completely beat the snot out of AMD (since Dell,HP, and gateway use their CPUs). Hopefully we will see some Intel chips that @ stock can beat the FX-55 @ 3ghz.

There was a big hype upon that new architecture, some ppls said it could be an entirely new one, such cell processors, without OoO.
I'm not disappointed at all of the new announcements of the IDF. The move to a enhanced P-M architecture was such prevedible because is simply the best (read complex, well balanced and performant over watt) processor Intel released in a couple of years or more.

But we should not forget that until the introduction (2H 06) AMD will gain positions in the market, will be stronger and revenue will be better and better. So I don't feel that new merom/conroe will have such an easy road, competition will be hard.

plus you also have to think when a regular consumer is buying a computer they look at raw ghz, but what are they going to think when they see that intel has a 3.8ghz processor then they release a new processor but only at 2.4 (just a example) some people are going to think well maybe intel is going down the drain or somthing. because of the drop in ghz. even through it will kill the 3.8ghz.

their gonna advertise it ect.. just like Pentium M. 2.4ghz comparable to 3.8

of course they had better hope AMD doesn't stand still either...which i'm sure it won't. But i think this core looks excellent.

5w for a decent processor would be excellent, as well.

This looks like one to keep an eye on.

Anyone heard of Elbrus 128Bit CPU's that armie buy's from Intel, but wich are not sold to public? Why should they make something new if the old CPU's are bought out as they are already... :P

I dont read things from toms hardware. But whats the expected wattage? Can we finnaly use tec's again? ;)

TDP ranges from 60w for desktop down to below Dothan for ultraportable. In terms of dissipation, its probably very similar to Venice Athlon 64s.
