View Full Version : Issues with GX stability

Alright my specs are in my sig. I can't get this brand new set of GX to work at even 2-2-2-5-1T at 200mhz with even 3.1 volts. Errors out in prime95 and I was having trouble getting it to boot.
I was running 2 x 256 of EB at like 230mhz 3-2-2-8-1T so I don't think it's the issue of having all 3 DIMM slots filled. Does the Newcastle not know how to handle 1gb that well? This is rather frustrating to get brand new memory that won't work at its specified speed or timings. I posted in the OCz category about the issue but I figured I'd get a faster response from more people here.

Update.
It won't boot at 200mhz 2-2-2-5 unless I use 2t. It won't do 220mhz at even 2.5-3-3-7
It won't boot at 187mhz 2-2-2-5-1T, either. It won't do 210mhz 2-2-2-5-2T, tho.
Looking like I've got a defective pair.
please kinda PM AndyOCZ or others OCZ stuff for solution.

Again? I just got this stuff back from RMA'ing my EB. Definitely looks defective, is not even stable with 1T and won't boot at 2T at its stock timings. Grrr these shipping costs aren't getting any cheaper.

3 DIMM slots filled?

1 has the voltage booster.

1 has the voltage booster.
1t and 2t are dependent on mb and cpu and not the memory.
Try booting without the DDR booster first, also you may want to try a newer bios if your not already using a newer one.

Kalway, try without the booster at 2.8 volts and 200 fsb. The booster could give issues, but you won't know for sure until you ruled it out.

I believe I tried that once last night. I'll try clearing the CMOS, then doing that in a minute here.
I tried each stick by itself with just the voltage booster and still couldn't get better than 2-2-2-5-2T at 200mhz.
And the BIOS is the latest version for my board.

Voltage booster and clearing CMOS still resulted in errors in prime95. Trying memtest right now to see if that yields errors.

Update. Memtest yielded no errors. Prime95 still errors after 1-3 minutes on blend. Trying the FPU test now.

tried all combinations of drive strength yet ? for OCZ PC3200 Gold and PC3500GoldGX most seem to like drive strength of 3 but try all combinations

doh wrong motherboard heh.. is that K8N Neo2 or Neo s754 ?

754, looks like errors are pointing to the CPU, problem is the CPU isn't even overclocked!

s754 boards so haven't been able to handle 2x 512mb double sided modules so that's probably why

That doesn't explain why I get the same problems with just one module in, though.

I'm going to try these on my Abit NF8-V when I get home from work in the morning. The only conclusion I can come to is the board.

Looking like a board issue. My Abit NF8-V doesn't seem to be having the same problems as the MSI K8N Neo. However, this board only has 2 dimm slots and only lets me set the vDDR to 2.8v.
I did get memory errors in memtest at 217mhz 2-2-2-5-1T, but there are a number of things that COULD have caused that. However, I'm not ruling out the possibility of faulty memory, still.

Here's an update for y'all. Got a DFI NF3 250gb Lan Party UT from Fry's. First one was DOA because some jerk that returned it didn't mention that it needed to be RTV. So I went to the other Fry's in San Marcos, because they had like 20 of em instead of 2, and they lowered the price $10 over the past day so I got $10.78 back for that. Anyways I boot up the system with the new board and I get some progress, eventually.
So I find some issues with it liking the RAM then eventually just try one stick at a time. First stick boots up fine, so I change it to the stock settings for it of 217mhz 2-2-2-5-1T, OMG IT BOOTS. Go in to memtest86 OMG NO ERRORS. *chin rubbing* So I put the other stick in, go in to memtest, ERRORS!! Up the voltage a touch, still errors, up the voltage to 3v, STILL ERRORS. Take the definitely good stick out and leave the other one in, ERRORS EVERYWHERE. Looks like we found the problem! I haven't tinkered with anything beyond the trc on the RAM timings, mainly because I'm not sure what to set em all to. All I know is that it looks like I'm going to end up doing the RMA process once again.

I've already got Jimmy and Eric on it. Getting an RMA ready for as we speak.
