Hey everyone, I was using my p4c800-e for my dothan until recently. Well I basicaly pulled off the evap and the adater/proc came off with it. I didnt realy think anything of it and put everything back together. Well it didnt boot... turns out i broke a couple pins off the adapter and screwerd it. So I put a 2.4a in... no boot. Turns out one pin didnt go in but got bent so i fixed that. Still no boot. I then tried and 2.4a in another comp and it worked.... Any ideas? Did the lack of pins kill my mobo? Thanks!

Did you make sure all pins were removed from the socket?
To me it seems that there's still one pin in the socket.

Well pins don't get bent by themselves, maybe it was (slightly) bent already, guess we'll never know.

Did you clear CMOS?
Did you test the V-Card, Memory, PSU...etc?
Is there anything that happens (or doesn't happen) when you turn it on (Fans that start spinning, beep codes....)?
Did you try to power it up using the bare minimum (MOBO, CPU, Mem, V-Card)?

I really doubt the lack of pins killed your MOBO, depending on the pins that are missing it's more likely to kill a CPU (There are several pins that supply the CPU with power, if too many of those pins (either ground or power) are missing, most likely other pins have to supply more power which may cause some traces in the CPU to burn).

The CPU with the bent pin may have caused a short circuit which killed your MOBO.

Do you know what pin got bent and what pin it may have touched?

Did you count the missing pins from the adapter, and/or did you remove the top from the socket to see if there are any pins? (Not very likely that a pin would get in between the socket...but you never know).

i did that once:D

you have broken your motherboard! congratulations!!

you have FuXXoR3D up your socket , pulling a cpu out without turning the lever properly WILL fux up your mobo and WILL fux up your cpu ... you might aswell buy new cpu and mobo , she's dead ...

Had that a few times.
By removing a waterblock or air cooler, that my cpu got stuck on the block and was pulled out of the socket without using the lever.

Both cpu and motherboard are still working. (had it like 2-3 times)
But I had it with a cpu not with the ct-479 adaptor.

Seem to me that you broke a pin and it stayed in the socket thats why you 2.4 got a bent pin, and maby on that moment you broke you motherboard.

Ive had this happen before and it didnt kill anything. This one is annoying though. I tried it with the bare minimum and everything starts as normal but the monitor doesnt get any signal. I also noticed that before the keyboard would light up once then a second time and the bios would pop up. The keyboard is lighting up the second time now. O and I got a new ct-479 that iam trying to use now :(

Happened to me once where I pulled my old 2.4c out along with the heatsink, everything worked fine afterwards...hopefully nothing is broken...good luck

thats sucks. Try to remove the battery and boot without it. IF there is no video signal try to have a speaker or Usb adapter that came with Mb. Yhe lights on that usb adapter should tell you the code what the problem is. Or if speaker beeps then also interpret the signal by looking at Asus Mb manual.
You could also try to blind flash your bios cause it might of get corupted. Just google "flashing AMI bios". There is a way to do that with no boot and a flopy
Hope this helps, good luck on fixing that. Rma might be considered also;)

man you realy do have bad luck. sometimes we alll do . I manage to kill 3 MB in 1 day. Had to sit on p3 600 for 2 weeks untill i got Abit ic7 MB back.

it should support 2.4a defintly. Could the socket got fdup so bad that there is no contact with some of the pins? Does other cpu works in the mb?

no other cpus work on that mobo and alot of people are reporting the same error message. though i dont think anyone has found a surefire fix for it :(
