2 7800gts in sli will kill 2 6800gts.

I think buying 7800GT let alone 2 would destroy your budget of under 1000 dollars.

Assuming you can re-use your old case, optical drives and monitor, I'd go for the following with the $1K budget:

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/9069/cart3bk.gif
Get your 3000+ E6 Revision CPU from Ewiz for $115.88 (http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=A64-3000BW) and a cheap $20 ($120-$20 coupon - $80 rebates) 160gig hard drive from a YMMV deal at BestBuy AR. (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=510093)

So total = $1,118.83 less $127.00 in rebates.. Uh oh ... still need a cooler for the CPU. Rats!

In general I'd try to build a system around a single 7800GT with a mobo that will be SLI capable so you have SLI as an option later on when more games take advantage of the that much horse power and prices have dropped a bit on the cards. BF2 will really benefit from 2gigs of ram as will any games with large maps.

Post you final rig components when you pull the trigger on the purchase. :D

Get at least a 7800GT (which would smack even 2x6800GT's, I think). 2GB's are a no-brainer.

6800's are cheap as chips these days, so get 2 of those and clock them up to ultra speeds.

processor aint too important, but a 570J can be had quite cheap.

mobo? a 925XE chipset should suffice.

RAM? about a gig of some nice DDR2 (corsair 5400UL overclocks nice)

with whatevers left get 2 raptors in RAID 0, and a decent soundcard.

DFI Lanparty NF4 would kick and is cheaper then Intel right now Northwood. Plus two gigs of ddr is probabaly like 1 gig of ddr2. I would say 1 7800GT A Venince 3000 DFI Lanparty NF4 2gigs of Tracer.

2GB is recommended.

This would of been better in the General Hardware section as it has more to do with hardware then the game itself. I would suggest 2GB of RAM though.

those there are the requirements ;)

I agree about the 2 gig,..at least with high settings its not a luxury but more a requirement,... At 1600 x 1200 with everything high but no AA, my harddrive would actually overheat due to the constant usage of the swap file...

After i put in another gig it is smooth as silk ... But then again, iff you have 2 cards, maybe 2 gig is overkill...(?)

when people put this on the box it basically means:
minimum=800x600 all low
recommended=800x600 all medium to get a decent 30 fps

I bet you it would run like shiat with a rig like that. Dual 7800's dont mean :banana::banana::banana: with BF2 without a very min. of 1Gb of RAM. :stick:

I went from dual 6800GTs to a Single GTX (at first) and the GTX is DEFINATELY faster at the settings I like than my previous 6800GT SLI rig.

If you are going to run at high texture settings at pretty much any decent res, you will NEED the 2GB.
