"According to performance measurements by HKEPC, Gigabyte GA-PT880Pro performs slightly better with DDR2 667MHz memory compared to the DDR 400MHz. Still, the difference in speed is negligible. The web-site also notes that when four DDR memory modules are installed, computer systems performs faster than the same system with a pair of memory sticks."

0% since there is no DDR2 in AMD systems .

As far as I understood, it's usable only in the particular Gigabyte board... so we might as well conclude it's basically useless :D

"Gigabyte’s DDR-to-DDR2 converter does not feature any additional logic, but utilizes peculiarities of VIA’s PT880 PRO chipset and is not compatible with any other mainboards, but GA-PT880Pro" - Xbitlabs

With that said, it doesn't sound as though any patents have been filed and it looks as though its more or less to do with the VIA's PT880 PRO chipset. This is not to say that gigabyte haven't added extra logic to handle the conversions. And i'm guessing this is to ensure that the "DDR2 Connectors" are not used on other motherboards apart from thier own. But you've got to admit its a good move on thier part, DDR2 or DDR - AGP or PCIe, you get the best of many worlds.

Is DDR2 on AMD as far as we all think it is?

I haven't bought a Gigabyte motherboard since ....well...geez...I think the days of Pentium MMX...This lame idea wouldn't encourge me either...Sorry to be so scathing.. but I think they build stuff before they research it sometimes to see if it's a good idea..

If someone releases such an adapter that is compatible with i955 , i would buy it ASAP !
...I would like to know how it performs with BH5/BH6 & tight timings

I don't care much about gigabyte themselves, I'm just hoping other manufacturers hop onto this

Until DDR2 matures and is significantly better than DDR as far as performance goes (and not just the oooo and ahhhh factor) then this is kinda just for show it seems :\
