no

you would need the retail hs that came with the 1.8a assuming it was a retail chip

Try and check out computer shops that build computers in house, or try discount surplus stores.
I`ve seen stock heatsinks and fans at these places still in the plastic intel packaging minus the processor.
They usually sell for around 15 bucks.

Why should you need a HS for that?

that's right.. as only the cpu is dead, no need to RMA hsf as well..

I believe both chip makes require the HSF and chip be returned under RMA.... but I have no idea if they are enforcing that when you make a return...

For a RMA you need send the product in the exact same way you purchased , that is , stock cooler , box ...etc .

But after you see its working, who keeps boxes in storage...?

well because teh box and hsf are required to rma the cpu then shouldnt everyone be keeping their boxes for the 3 year warenty time ? ive kept all the boxes to the processors i have.

no you dont need the box ...only HSF and CPU (for AMD at least ...i read the warrenty paper). not sure about intel, but i think it also only requires HSF and CPU, no box.

I do :D , just in case . Some manufatures ask you the box for RMA , i don`t know about intel or AMD ....some VGA manufacturers used to do that .
