Hello gang.

For gaming/overclocking and general performance, I have the option to choose between the following 2 CPU's (or whatever else I find):

- 3500+ Venice; LBBLE 0517 APOW
- 3700+ San Diego; CABGE 0517 UPBW [I'd like to get a San diego though]

Which do you figure will give me the better overclock? I'm thinking that unless I find a nice early week CABHE SanDy, the venice will overclock a little better to compensate for the lack of cache.

This link: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pa...&item=219&num=5 seems to indicate a small but measurable difference between V&SD cores.

Overclock results from:
- http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=888001
- http://www.cpudatabase.com/index.cfm?Action=search [search 3500+ and 3700+]

- The CABHE stepping for SD seems to be great
- There is also an exact match for the 3500+ Venice in the CPUdatabase which hit 2806@1.47v (but I can't verify that this is stable or anything...) -There are similar chips here at XS forums for the venice.

I'm looking for a Gem of a chip, I'd prefer a San Diego really...Anyone wanna sell me a great San Diego or even a Venice? :D

Any advice?
Thanks for any info

i'm normally a venice fan because they're so cheap, but when you're talking about a 3500+ venice vs. 3700+ sandy, then the price difference is small.

Go with the Sandiego.

Whoops

I forgot to mention that the 3500+ is about the going price of a 3200+, and the 3700+ is also discounted a little bit.

So basically the price is fairly competitive relative to market price for both chips.

I guess all I really wanted was some feedback as to...well a guess on the overclocks :)

A San Diego, same that you have to choose, in a Spanish OC Forum: http://www.forospc.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=106913

Thanks for that link!

Looks like he eventually achieved about 2.9 Ghz at 1.6v, but watercooled. Looks like I might just go with the San Diego then eh...why not :)

Edit: I also found this CPU-database...damn I like the layout because it lists heatspreader, cooling, how stable, etc... http://www.munich-lans.de/friends/pc/cpulist.htm

There are 2 cabge upbw week 18's in there that OC very well, but I found that 1 member on this forum is running his week 17 upbw at 9x300 with a Typhoon HS and 80cfm fan. I may just take my chances on a week 17 cuz I can't seem to find a good cabhe anyway and I can't prove that they're better
