I've been using the same xp install for about two years now. Needless to say after I got it tweaked to my liking, we've become quite close. I just upgraded and followed the directions from the ars forum thread for a seamless hardware upgrade w/o freaking xp out.

It's not working to my liking. I need to reformat and reinstall xp. No big deal, right? Well, I have two years worth of stuff that I would prefer not to lose. What I am really looking at not losing: Firefox profile to include the password manager. Thunderbird email/address book, etc for both of my email accts. Steam.

There's other things, but they're not super impartant to me. I'm going to look at the file and transfer settings wizard thingy that comes with xp to see if that can lend a hand.

Also, maybe some linkage to slipstream drivers and crap for an xp install, I think I'm going to try the nvraid with a couple of 40 giggers I have laying around. Should I try two or three drives?

I apologize for not being able to research this on my own, but I have to get some sleep, because I've got to be at work in a few hours. I figure there's nobody else on the planet that should be as good at reinstalling windows as you guys. I greatly appreciate any advice, tips, tricks, etc.

Thanks.

"Using the Files and Settings Transfer WizardThe Files and Settings Transfer Wizard helps you move your data files and personal settings from your old computer to your new one, without having to go through much of the same configuration you did with your old computer. For example, you can take your personal display properties, folder and taskbar options, and Internet browser and e-mail settings from your old computer and place them on the new one. The wizard will also move specific files or entire folders, such as My Documents, My Pictures, and Favorites. Passwords are not moved with program settings when you use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. This is a feature of the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard that helps to keep your passwords confidential."

Do a complete backup imho......there's always something.
