This could be your chance to get a Dual core, a DFI Crossfire, and a r520.
Would be even better if you can slap in a extra $500, because getting these 3 things would go a bit over $1k. With a extra $500 you can buy all that stuff and a X-Fi sound card. So it would be:
$1500
* A64 X2 4200+
* DFI Crossfire
* x900 Pro or XT
* X-Fi sound card

Do not get a X-Fi sound card. They range from $399-$130. I can not see spending $400 on a sound card unless I am a musician using it's functionality. Even then I would be so pissed I probably wouldn't buy it.
Yes go A64, why wouldn't you is the real question.
The X2 dual core processor is up to you. If you have the money I would definately go that route.

I would...In a "few months" I would look at:
*Whatever is the bang-for-buck overclocking X2, prolly 3400-4000+, 3800+ already exists and looks to be an amazing bargain.
*Whatever gfx card is the BFB high-end. Right now it looks to be the 7800gt...But ATi has yet to show it's hand.
*Watch ATi's mobos and see if they're good. Look at DFI's and Sapphire's for sure. That or DFI's now aging nf4 ultra-d, which may be a bargain by then.
I could list out parts, but computer hardware prices are violatile. When you have your budgetted amount of bucks, come back and we'll spec out a system for you...One things for sure...Yes, it's a good thing to go AMD64.
