View Full Version : Strange Internet Problem

I've recently assembled my new PC (see sig below) and I'm having no end of Internet problems with it.

On the SLI-DR, I disabled the MAC(NV) Lan in BIOS and am only using the Marvell Lan connection. I installed Windows x64 Pro, updated the default x64 Marvell Lan drivers, then installed the NForce4 6.66 x64 SMBus and IDE drivers (I did not install anything else). Then I ran Windows update and installed the video card and sound card drivers.

Now, the internet seems to work ok when casually browsing. But, when I surf the Internet, I tend to open up to 10-20 pages and then go back to the first page so I don't wait for any loading. When I do this with my new PC, the internet connection appears to come to a halt, with only random bursts of information getting through. This is confirmed in Windows Task Manager where the Network activity is mostly 0%, with occassional spikes of activity.

When I download files from the Internet, sometimes I get a nice level 2.5 MB/S in Windows Task Manager. But, I can download the EXACT same file right after and the internet connection averages like 0.5 MB/S with random spikes of increased and decreased transfer.

I tried playing Halo online and that seemed perfectly fine. Windows Task Manager showed a fairly level 700-800 MB/S.

If I test out my internet connection on any free DSL testing page, I get around 2.5 MB/S... which I think is about what I should expect.

I'm using DSL which connects to a DSL modem, into a Router and then into my PC (all wired). If I take the ethernet cable directly from my new PC and connect it to my old one (P4 2.6MHZ with Windows XP and onboard Marvell Gigabit Lan), the internet works perfectly normal without issue. All the log on information is stored in my router, so I haven't configured anything special in either PC.

Oh and btw I have Windows Firewall disabled on both PCs.

Anyone have any idea on what is going on here or what could be causing this. Its really ruining my ability to surf the web.
