how do turion based laptops stack up against sonoma(dothan) based laptops.
any links to some results? chips tested?
a friend is telling me an A64 beats the snot out of dothans. telling me a dothan is as fast as a tbred or a thunderbird clock for clock. and no dothan cna ever beat an a64.
toss me some links to credable reviews showing the real speeds of these chips.

if u were going for a thin and light notebook and you wanted to get one right now, i'd say go with Intel. The turion is ok, but it has a higher tdp than the centrino and lower L2 cache. But the open architecture, on-board memory controller, and the fact that it can handle 64 bit instructions is a plus. Turion paired with an Ati chipset makes a BADASS 12.1 inch notebook. It's still relatively new has yet to fully shine. Wait till Asus plays around with it, if your willing. If your not I'd suggest the Asus M5a or MSI Megabook s260

the turion is just their mobile processor, its almost exactly like the a64, but way better for mobile, kinda like the 2500XP mobiles were. aren't they?

im already on my 1.86 sonoma notebook with a 6800 and a gig of ddr2 inside.
but hes saying im an idiot because turion is leagues faster than this dothan could ever hope to be.
i went for this lappy cuz i couldnt find anything close to the price with near the same performance. to get near the same speed as this i would have to pay over $2300 compared to my $1550

your is firend IS so worng im not an intel fan boy but i know that sonoma/dothan doesnt have competition right now longer battery life and better perfomance AND a lot better
and if you can you can pin OC it clock for clock dothan is 300mhz faster so if you have a 1.8ghz dothan you will need a 2.1ghz athlon to match it up

The Dothan crushes the Turion at the same clockspeed and uses much less power. I would say the Dothan for the same price as the Turion will crush the Turion completely. 1.86ghz Dothan power is very good in a laptop.

so ive noticed..
70+ fps in WoW, well over 500fps in Diablo2  (the 6800 helps with that too haha)
and i get over 3 hours of game time! :D :woot:

I'm sorry, but you're wrong.
Although Dothan kicks ass in desktops, Dothan actually underperforms considerably in laptops, due to its crappy CAS4 DDR2 533 memory.
As a laptop editor just about to release a detailed Turion vs Pentium M review, I would know ;)
We compared the 2.0ghz Turion with the 2.0ghz Dothan, and Turion actually won most of the benchmarks. Someone who was 100% impartial performed the benchmarks (my boss). Also, I got my friend who works at Intel to look at the scores. Although he was quite upset with them, he said that from a benchmark standpoint, they were fair.
Of course, I say this unofficially, because this is supposed to be secret (since review isn't out yet) ;)
